Last night I had the pleasure of speaking at my division’s @NFUtweets AGM in my role as a @RestoreBritain_ KCC Councillor. What an incredible group of people — down-to-earth, honest and incredibly hard-working. These are the people who quite literally keep our country fed. I was genuinely shocked to hear about the scale of illegal meat being smuggled through #Dover. The risk of diseases such as foot and mouth and bluetongue entering the UK is deeply concerning and must be taken seriously. I also heard real frustration from farmers about the direction of travel from @DefraGovUK. Like many, I voted to leave the EU, and there are growing concerns about decisions that appear to move us closer back towards it through the back door. But what really stood out was the passion our farmers have to educate the next generation — opening their farms to children so they can understand where their food comes from and why British farming matters. A fantastic evening at The Hilltop with great food and excellent hosts. A huge thank you to Steve Glover from Glover’s Farm for the invitation.
