An important meeting regarding the digitalization of public services was held at the Right to Public Services Commission under the chairmanship of Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Shehzada. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Zakir Hussain, Director General KPIT Board Dr. Aakif Khan, Deputy Director Shakir Ullah, and other officials of the Commission. The primary objective of the meeting was to review the ongoing process of digitalizing public services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to deliberate on future strategies. During the session, Dr. Aakif Khan briefed the Commission in detail on the digitalization of more than 500 public services, highlighting progress achieved so far, the technical systems in place, and inter-departmental coordination. The Directorate of Passports and Immigration has released its annual performance report for 2025. The report highlights major reforms and initiatives aimed at improving services for citizens. According to the report, a total of 5,572,013 citizens obtained passports during the year. Out of these, 3,275,263 passports were issued under the normal category. Another 1,839,487 were processed under the urgent category. You feel something shift inside you when you sit across a team that treats fraud as a national emergency. That was me in Whitehall, meeting the UK Public Sector Fraud Authority. I joined Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo representing Head of Public Service & Chief of Staff Felix Koskei for talks with Mark Cheeseman (Head of the Government Counter Fraud Function) and the UK Public Sector Fraud Authority at the Cabinet Office. We compared Kenya’s journey with EACC, DCI and payroll clean-up to the UK’s data-driven fraud detection, where an estimated £40-60bn of public money is lost to fraud and error each year. Seeing their tools up close reminded me: hakuna mchezo na pesa ya umma. Our reforms are not about systems alone. They’re about dignity for wanainchi who deserve honest services. This morning at KICC, Nairobi, I stood with Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, and leaders of our Government-Owned Entities and Executive Agencies and told them, without blinking, "You are the captains of industry in government, major enablers of our BETA agenda." Our charge was simple: align mandates, measure real impact, and make service felt by wananchi, not just reported in files. Payroll audits and HRIS reforms are flushing out ghost workers draining billions so that every shilling pays a real, honest Kenyan. I reminded colleagues that our self-assessment tool is the heartbeat check of our governance, and that over 1 million public servants are called to deliver efficiently, transparently and sustainably. Reform only happens when someone chooses to press the button. We're together as we build strong institutions anchored on integrity and performance. Impact is the promise; delivery is the proof.
