The industry isn’t quite sure how to handle it. When insureds or claimants disagree with a decision, they are using AI to submit extremely long, drawn-out counterarguments. Most often, these counterarguments are literally AI slop. Not because the AI is wrong, but because the human prompting them has failed to ask the right questions. Nonetheless, it takes an inordinate amount of time to address and fully respond to these AI-written pushbacks. So time-consuming, in fact, we are now considering having AIs write them. It’s only a matter of time before most online interaction is AI-to-AI, not human-to-human.

Waar jonge idealisten worden ingezet om een moreel failliet systeem draaiende te houden (Concept!) Zij vormen nog steeds de kern van dit hele walgelijke toneelstuk: de speciale rapporteurs, de ridders. Onafhankelijke ridders die zich kapot werken voor een habbekrats en één overbelaste medewerker, terwijl de staten die hen in het leven roepen ondertussen hun eigen burgers vermoorden, martelen en laten verhongeren. Zonder de OHCHR — het Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights — zouden deze ridders nauwelijks kunnen functioneren. De Mensenrechtenraad zelf is een politiek orgaan van 47 staten dat resoluties aanneemt, mandaten creëert en landen veroordeelt of beschermt. Maar zonder de OHCHR zou deze Raad niet kunnen bestaan of functioneren. De OHCHR is het professionele secretariaat dat de Raad draaiende houdt. Zonder dit kantoor zou de Raad een lege, betekenisloze huls zijn. Dit is geen mensenrechtensysteem. Dit is een schandalig, moreel failliet circus. Noord-Korea mocht rond 2015-2018 gewoon een zetel innemen in deze Raad. Een land dat politieke gevangenkampen runt als moderne concentratiekampen, honger als wapen inzet en zijn bevolking totalitair onderdrukt, mocht meebeslissen over mensenrechten wereldwijd. Nu heeft het geen zetel meer, maar wordt het land wél veroordeeld via resoluties en een speciaal mandaat. De hypocrisie is niet te overzien. Iran doet er nog een schepje bovenop. Terwijl het regime de afgelopen jaren - en nog steeds - eigen burgers neerschiet, arresteert, martelt en executeert, mag een Iraanse diplomaat die het regime jarenlang heeft verdedigd plaatsnemen in het Adviescomité. Tegelijkertijd houdt de Raad speciale sessies over de misdaden van datzelfde regime. Het is niet alleen ironisch. Het is schaamteloos. Een belangrijk thema van de Raad is het lot van vluchtelingen en migranten. Via de Special Rapporteur voor de mensenrechten van migranten worden pushbacks (terugsturen bij de grens), detentie en schendingen van het asielrecht aangekaart. Ook hier geldt: zonder de OHCHR zouden deze rapporteurs niet kunnen werken. En dan is er nog Nederland. Ook Nederland zit braaf in deze moreel failliete club in 2026. De delegatie wordt geleid door Ambassadeur Erica Schouten, met Ambassadeur Lars Tummers als plaatsvervanger, en ondersteund door Simone van der Post, Marten Schwandt, Niels Diegen, Lisa Bakels en Tom Mascini. Nederland betaalt er bovendien fors aan mee, zowel via de reguliere VN-begroting als via grote vrijwillige bijdragen aan de OHCHR. Maar het mooiste is nog wel dit: via het JPO-programma haalt Nederland jonge, vaak idealistische Nederlanders binnen en dumpt ze bij de OHCHR. Met frisse idealen en de overtuiging dat ze écht iets kunnen betekenen voor mensenrechten, stappen ze het systeem in. Binnen enkele maanden ontdekken ze hoe het écht werkt: dat Iran een stem heeft in het Adviescomité terwijl het eigen burgers vermoordt, dat Noord-Korea vroeger gewoon aan de tafel mocht zitten, dat resoluties worden afgezwakt vanwege politieke deals, en dat de OHCHR structureel wordt uitgeknepen door dezelfde staten die misdaden plegen. Sommigen raken gedesillusioneerd en vertrekken. De rest past zich aan. Ze leren hoe je compromissen sluit met dictators, hoe je de schijn ophoudt en hoe je het systeem niet uitdaagt maar erin meedraait. Zo worden jonge, goedbedoelende Nederlanders langzaam maar zeker vervuild door het systeem. In plaats van dat ze het verbeteren, worden ze er onderdeel van en helpen ze mee om de façade in stand te houden. En ondertussen blijven Erica Schouten, Lars Tummers, Simone van der Post, Marten Schwandt, Niels Diegen, Lisa Bakels en Tom Mascini het systeem namens Nederland legitimeren. Dit is geen mensenrechtenraad. Dit is een schandalige vertoning waarin staten die hun eigen bevolking vermoorden of verdrukken invloed kopen of behouden, terwijl de OHCHR het hele wankele bouwwerk nog net overeind probeert te houden. De ridders zweten zich suf, de OHCHR werkt zich rot, en jonge Nederlandse JPO’s worden ingezet om een systeem draaiende te houden dat moreel failliet is. De Mensenrechtenraad is geen rechtbank. Het is een politiek theater van de absurditeit, waar hypocrisie de norm is en echte gerechtigheid een bijzaak. Zonder de OHCHR zou dit hele schandalige circus allang zijn ingestort. En dat is misschien wel het meest beschamende van allemaal: dat we er ook nog jonge mensen bij halen om het in stand te houden. Kortom: dit systeem is niet “beter dan niets”. Het is een schandalige, hypocriete façade die de schurken beschermt en de slachtoffers in de kou laat staan, terwijl de OHCHR, de rapporteurs en zelfs Nederlandse diplomaten en JPO’s het vuile werk moeten opknappen.
