Interesting development...I suspect Alex Salmond was key to holding Alba together. I doubt anyone else in the leadership has the capability of doing so. Former SNP members and lapsed members should always be welcome to rejoin.*Holyrood2026 is on par with Ref2014 in importance .

This is appalling. I had no idea. I remember arguing the proposed criteria for REF2014 were discriminatory because those on maternity leave had to submit the same number of items as people who hadn't been. The guidelines were changed, with a sensible reduction in outputs required

Clydebank/Dumbarton & Vale of Leven (West Dunbartonshire) voted 54%-46% in Ref2014 & and swung an 18,000 Labour majority to 14,000 SNP majority in 2015. Martin was re elected in 2017 and 2019. If you have a vote in this constituency vote to re elect Martin Docherty Hughes.

Saddened to read about Peter Higgs' passing, and reminded of this piece by Jim Al-Khalili on 'publish or perish' academic cultures around the time of #REF2014.

1. Scot Ref2014 included 16-17y. And it was considered for Ref2016. So it’s not so unreasonable 2. It means you think Commonwealth citizens shouldn’t have had a vote. And if only those affected must vote, then you agree Brits abroad in EU & EU citizens in UK should’ve had votes

Would help voters immensely if politicians focused on being believable (credibility integrity = trust). We need to be inspired, not told to 🗳️ Electoral turnout needs clarity on what vote is FOR. Indy Ref2014 had 84% turnout yet lessons not learned. scottish-independence.com/

✍️"Submitting journal articles and books was preferred in both exercises. Yet, in both the REF2014 and REF2021, non-traditional outputs did just as well as “traditional” outputs in terms of the proportion awarded a 4* rating" #HigherEd wp.me/p4m9em-cnG

There was a document for the REF-just-gone which proudly stated that REF2014 had cost 1% of the research councils' budget. That was already a phenomenal waste.

New analysis of 800 REF2014 impact case studies shows that less applied disciplines were more likely to use hyperbolic or promotional language to boost the novelty, contribution or certainty of their claims compared to more applied disciplines
