I think people take redengine for granted, not realising just how much of a mess it really is under the hood (especially for modding!) Developing an entirely new engine is also sorta out of the question, not without massive project delays.

RedEngine was based off ancient bioware tech and it was just not up to par anymore, I dont see a reason to criticise them for moving engine before even seeing any of their output with that engine.

Brother the engine isn't the issue, it's the lack of care for optimization and crunch amongst AAA studios to increase shareholder profits and deliver on unreasonable deadlines. Cyberpunk 2077 released on REDengine 4 and was a buggy unoptimized mess that took years to fix.

People really don't understand how much of a pain REDengine is. It's a big part of why TW3 Complete Edition has CPU performance issues. Also, it's a miracle REDmod works at all.

- They haven’t relocated to America - They sold GOG to its founder (which is still at CPR) to prevent it from being affected by investors - REDengine led to all of their games being delayed for years and broken AF at release Hope this helped.

I don’t use old Leon often cuz REDengine is not strong enough to be accurate with his old appearance. I have to be tricky with lights. It’s easier with young Leon. I love put different hair on him too haha

they're switching to Unreal Engine which is both reassuring and scary? REDengine couldn't handle 2077 very well so fair, but it means a lot of the work has to be redone.. i just hope they take their time and manage to fill the gaps Night City had in the first game

Why? The guys at Fool's Theory mostly worked on the asset and RedEngine pipeline. 500 strong are working on TW4 from from November 2024, when full production actually started. I think they intended to release both things close to each other since they're going to be connected

en.gamegpu.com/news/igry/cyb… CD Projekt RED is executing a massive technical overhaul for The Witcher 3 ahead of the Songs of the Past expansion. The game is dropping the faulty DX12 wrapper in favor of native DirectX 12 Ultimate integration on a REDengine 4-level architecture, optimizing multithreading and asset streaming. The updated engine enables modern upscaling, Frame Generation, and full Path Tracing, making the game a highly demanding pipeline for hardware benchmarking. Due to the overhaul, the new minimum requirements for The Witcher 3 now surpass the base specs of Cyberpunk 2077: CPU: — Cyberpunk 2077: Intel Core i7-6700 / AMD Ryzen 5 1600 — The Witcher 3 (Songs of the Past): Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 5 2600 GPU: — Cyberpunk 2077: NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB / AMD RX 580 8 GB — The Witcher 3 (Songs of the Past): NVIDIA GTX 1660 6 GB / AMD RX 5500 XT 8 GB OS & Storage: — Cyberpunk 2077 supported Windows 10. The updated Witcher 3 completely drops Windows 10, requiring Windows 11 for modern thread scheduling on hybrid CPUs. HDD support is excluded for both games (SSD mandatory). The technical patch will launch ahead of the expansion to gather telemetry and test the architecture across various PC configurations. #Witcher3 #CDPR #Cyberpunk2077 #PathTracing #Hardware #PCGaming #Benchmarking

Way more excited for this than GTA 6. Full game’s worth of content on PC at launch for ~$30? I’m hyped as hell. Long live REDengine — everything else is Unreal Engine and runs like garbage these days

The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past will be the last we see of the REDengine. CD Projekt has already openly acknowledged that the engine played a big role in Cyberpunk's awful launch. Still, I would be less worried about The Witcher 4's performance if it were powered by REDengine rather than Unreal.
