No serious person talks about Ā«living foreverĀ». Weāre talking about stopping/reversing human physiological deterioration. If youāre 50 like Elon you are a decade away from total Ā«self-destruction modeĀ». DSTM.
Iām sure. I know it. ~Nothing in rodents will translate and will often have opposite effects. Every serious/experienced pharma R&D person knows this. mobile.twitter.com/JuliaB_fiā¦
Nothing. Thereās no evidence that any lifespan extension in any lower organism will translate to humans. Something that extends lifespan in say mice may very welll be pro-aging in humans. mobile.twitter.com/ChrisPalmā¦
And I have seen a lot of wealthy guys (including my own family)(complete workaholics) and none of them got older than early 70āsš° Their wealth and drive couldnāt help them with health/aging.
And a friend of mine made a salient point: Ā«It wonāt be easy to replace Elon! Only an handful of such individuals in a century.Ā» Elon is 50 now. It basically statistically means ~10k days left without science-based aging intervention (that ideally should start at age ~30).
Seems really unlikely given that heās repeatedly expressed a lack of interest in longevity research. Although apparently heās meeting with Larry Ellison again today which is curious. We still donāt know what theyāve been talking about.
I also doubt reprogramming compounds that may work to some extent in rodents will work in humans, seriously doubt things like Recombinant IL-6, Forskolin etc will have rejuvenating effects in vivo in humans.
Someone asked me Ā«How do you think Altos may NOT succeed?Ā» My answer: If there's a lack of systems thinking and total integration with real-life human biology and if human translation isnāt kept top of mind at all times.
Calico Labsā Kimmel, as well as other startups, including @AltosLabs, Shift, @RetroBiotech, YouthBio Therapeutics and AgeX (initially a subsidiary of Michael Westās BioTime), are likewise investigating the rejuvenative potential of partial reprogramming
