Interesting as Westminster Council have a retrofirst policy but that’s no protection - demolitions since the introduction of the policy are continuing .. @ArchitectsJrnal @C20Society #Brutalist brutalistconstructions.com/2…

Sad to see the old Darwin House being demolished. This is a council development yet no retrofit survey was carried out. What’s the point of a retrofirst policy that the council can’t even comply with on their own developments. It’s beginning to look like a load of PR guff
Great to see @CityWestminster have now introduced their #Retrofirst policy. Proof will be in the pudding when we see if it’s applied to their own buildings so please @w9maidavale @MattNoble_ make Darwin House retrofirst and 100% genuine council housing 🙏🏼 @WHurst1

@MayorofLondon and @CityWestminster have produced some form of “retrofirst” guidance/policy but given the number of demolitions that are still taking place some could say they are nothing more than a “window dressing* exercise - always measure the outcomes @ArchitectsJrnal

How is it that a new build might be considered cheaper and lower risk than an existing hall or a church? #RetroFirst should be the starting point or things are very awry.
We are busy in Edrom (Nr Duns, Berwickshire) working with our community to decide on how to provide a community space. We are working with our CC, @scotborders SOSCH, @SChurchesTrust and other organisations. Any feedback would be amazing. #berwickshire #edromchurch #community

Join our Eviction Resistance Workshop this Saturday! We’re hosting it as part of birthday celebrations of the @savecentralhill community. The residents at Central Hill have been fighting to prevent their estate's demolition for a full decade now! It's an honour to witness such incredible resilience from the community, let alone be involved in it. Though, of course we wish there was nothing that needed preventing in the first place! #RefurbishDontDemolish #RetroFirst 📣 At 3:30pm, we’ll hold a short protest centring the prevalence of empty homes. In England, there are over 33,000 homes that are owned AND kept empty by local councils. There are over 50 empty homes at Central Hill Estate alone! Why are these often newly refurbished homes being kept empty in the middle of a housing crisis?! Let’s show up and highlight how reckless that is! 🪧 Then, there will be banner making at 5:30pm, which should be great fun for the kids! The banners we create on the day will be used at our upcoming housing protests. ✊ To end on a high note, we’ve got eviction resistance training planned for 7:15pm! It's crucial that as a community we learn how to defend ourselves AND our neighbours from eviction! All are welcome to join! And remember: as long as we stay in our homes, WE hold the power.
