Healthcare is a rigged game. Insurance and medical conglomerates are robbing us blind.
I don’t think people realize this, but over 190 health systems offer their own insurance plans as well.
Many of these leverage their large systems to get capitated payments from the government in the form of MA/MCO plans. They also insure their own employees, so that their healthcare spend essentially zeros out.
That is the basic integrated-delivery-system strategy: capture both the insurance spread and the care-delivery margin, keep care inside the network, reduce avoidable utilization and minimize payments leaving the enterprise.
We can’t say that the dynamic is hospitals vs insurance companies because the line between the two has been blurred.
It’s now just everyone against doctors and patients.
