The Robotics field thrives today because robotics engineers do not gatekeep knowledge.
🪧When a new LiDAR sensor hits the market, someone sits down and writes the software that lets a robot talk to it. They could keep it internal, instead they push it to GitHub with a clean README and a license to save other engineers from "re-inventing the wheel". Within months, research labs, startups, and students across continents are building on top of it without starting from zero. This compounding effect is the engine of modern innovation.
🪧The same thing happens with robot models. When a team publishes their URDF (the digital blueprint of a robot's geometry, joints, and links alongside mesh files), they hand the global community a shared testing ground. An algorithm developed in Spain can be validated against the same digital twin being used in China and Nigeria. Results become comparable, progress becomes faster. The whole field levels up and grows together.
None of this happens by accident. It occurs because engineers make a deliberate choice; to contribute rather than gatekeeep their works.
(ROS itself exists because a community decided that infrastructure should be shared, not stored; it's an entire ecosystem powering everything from warehouse robots to Mars rovers!)
✅ The robots solving real-world problems today stand on a foundation of open-source collaboration. It’s a rare privilege to work in a field where progress is a shared, global endeavor.
✅ Our ongoing Robotics workshop, both teaches and gets you certified in your chosen field of robotics. Registration is open till April 23rd, 2026. Apply here:
