I got the chance to speak at @RubyConfMini back in November on building solo, something I've done for good portions of my career. This talk is everything I would tell younger me, just getting started, crammed into 30 minutes. youtube.com/watch?v=nBygy-rMā¦
Video for my @RubyConfMini talk "Teaching Ruby to Count" is out!
Learn how Ruby's built-in tooling can make iterating your custom objects just as delightful as working with the basic array.

Despite being super nervous I had a ton of fun hosting a Ruby Game Show at @RubyConfMini! I hope you enjoy it! All feedback is greatly appreciated because I plan on giving it again!

For attending, I really value daily covid testing. Providing covid tests for the number of days of the event when checking folks in was great during @RubyConfMini
Yes people have replaced sidekiq worker logic with Crystal programs. You can define the same models in Crystal as you have in ActiveRecord and work with the same DB tables. You could also write micro-services in Crystal.
Thanks for that glowing endorsement! When you say, "Crystal is Rubyists secret weapon for performance" are you implying that both languages can be used in the same project and that Crystal should just handle the performance and concurrency bits?
To wrap up, thank you to @JemmaIssroff for her determination & hard-work, to @EMGSamp for her stamina & passion, to @andycroll for his expertise & guidance, and to all who attended/spoke at the conference. #RubyConfMini was most definitely a special once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Now that I am waiting to board my flight to Houston, I can't help think about the great experience everyone had at #RubyConfMini a little over a week ago. It was one of the best conference experiences I've had and here is why: š§µ
I miss @RubyConfMini already!
@Jemma, @EMGSamp and @andycroll are such competent, thoughtful and fun people (funny, however, is another question š) And Iām lucky to be the civilian ride-along in organizing this epic conference.
#RubyConfCanada next year, maybe?
ALT Jemma saying something funny so Andy, Emily and Maple laugh.
ALT Mapleās conference badge containing the appropriate amount of sticker indicating negative COVID tests.
Well @RubyConfMini itās been exhausting but so rewarding to host you.
Hats off to @JemmaIssroff and @EMGSamp (ably assisted by @OngMaple) for pulling together an amazing hybrid of a RubyConf and a regional conf.
Sorry for running off so quickly!
I wonder if he meant to publish that right after RubyConfMini or if it was coincidence. RubyConfMini was a conference specifically designed for people who felt unsafe going to RubyConf in Texas so they could still attend a conference and it was wonderful
