Fabricってネーミング、というかブランディング、synapseよりキャッチーというか、sqldwみたいに迷われないし成功した感あるから一般語は正義なんだな。それぞれの機能名でオリジナリティ出してるけどオールインワンで説明つくし
あとOneDriveがある状況でのOneLakeもよかったと思う

fair, but snowflake has been snowflake and databricks has been databricks.. However we have: Analysis Services cubes, tabular models, power pivot, power bi, PDW, SqlDw, Synapse, Fabric, Data Catalog, Purview, DTS, SSIS, ADF v1 ADF v2 and don't forget the fallen: DQS, MDS

At the time I was pushing for integration between SQLDB and SQLDW via elastic query. This would have gone some way to address @bob_duffy s concerns. This may have happened via other means now. In 2017 however this would have been killer (I think)

It is not a PDW artifact. It was a design decision made in SQLDW Gen 1. As @bob_duffy says it provided the maximum number of evenly distributed “click stops” / scale units. Ensuring storage was evenly distributed also addressed concerns about usage of new compute.

Azure Synapse Analyticsに内包されるサービスの名前が変わるようですね😅
SQL プール
↓

SQL オンデマンド
↓
Serverless SQL Pools
まぁまだプレビューだから社内でもそんなに浸透していないし混乱はあまりないけどそもそもからしてSQLDWの名称がSynapseなのが分かりずらい😅
