The current system only diagnoses those who display 5-6 “characteristics” in the DSM code system. I have zero saving worked all my life, got injured va covers me now. Ssdi covers me. Still work, still own my house.. still put my kids thru college. Its called determination, knowledge of what is a need vs want. My phone is 10 years old.. my cars three are 2002 and 2013 and 1982. I fix shit my self, using Google, I horse trade services, and can fish and hunt for food. I grow gardens in the suburbs, and I buy discount whole foods. I'm ok. Half my organs are failing and I still work out 4 day a week. Zero excuses for being a bitch. They just do not know what hardship is. They fold like lawn chairs.

Disability (SSDI) and unemployment aren't really welfare. We pay in to those systems, and employers pay in to those systems. Those are more like insurance. SSI and EBT are welfare.

I’m totally and permanently disabled, still below retirement age, missed paying my drug plan premium and so now have no coverage for my inhalers. In the time between becoming disabled and finally getting approved for SSDI (I get the max because I worked all my life and did well) my family lost everything and we had to sell our home under duress and yeah that money is gone too.
