UPDATE (8:15 p.m.) SUSPECT IDENTIFIED - Detectives have worked diligently and identified the suspect in today’s armed robbery as 47-year-old George David Treece of Kentucky. Treece is wanted for aggravated robbery after allegedly entering Truist Bank, located at 240 West Main Street, earlier today (6/16) and robbing the bank while armed with a handgun. Investigators believe Treece fled the area in a dark Chevy single-cab truck with no rear bumper and an Alabama license plate mounted on the tailgate bearing tag number 8AA2B1X. Detectives are actively pursuing additional leads and do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the community. We greatly appreciate the coordinated efforts of our officers, detectives, and crime analyst, whose swift and diligent work and with the assistance of cutting edge technology, led to the suspect’s identification.
