I certainly tick the boxes of positive attitude (to a delusional degree, my husband would say), curiosity, and fun-seeking.
But I also find myself to re-reading philosophers/writers I enjoyed in my youth, and find I have a deeper understanding (see my tweets on Rilke yesterday).
Hmm; only a little behind you (70) but I’ve discovered that “senior virtues” (dignity, wisdom) are best ignored. The first comes from not caring if you’re undignified, the second is usually wrong. I’d rate positive attitude, curiosity and fun-seeking. Self-care a necessity.
Now that I am in the foothills of my eighth decade (at 72), I am drawn to stories about how older women look at life from the positive perspective of accumulated experience and (hopefully) wisdom.

I didn’t have an arc in mind for Ruth though I did know she and Nelson would have a ‘long story’. So glad you enjoyed the books - there might be another one day 😊
So exciting to be at @cheltfestivals today to see debut class of ‘25 @lucyrosecreates, @Nussaibah, and Florence Knapp discuss their upcoming novels with @SamBaker. Three very different but extraordinary debuts. 2025 is shaping up to be an excellent year for books!
