Saturday Evening Weather Update – Cornwall
From Sunshine to Showers: A Classic Cornish Weather Shift!
Wow, what a difference just 24 hours can make in Cornwall’s weather! After basking in that glorious sunshine yesterday, today has served as a reminder that we’re never too far from our next dose of drizzle. Many parts of the Duchy have been under dull, damp skies for much of the day—and it looks like that gloomy trend will carry on into the evening.
So, what’s going on up there?
The culprit behind today’s change is a moist southwesterly airflow, dragging in a blanket of clouds that’s kept sunshine at bay across most of the region. While a few lucky spots might still catch the odd bright spell, the general picture is overcast and humid, with patchy light rain and drizzly mist developing—especially over higher ground like Bodmin Moor and the Penwith uplands, thanks to low cloud bases hugging the hills.
Temperatures this evening are holding between 13°C and 17°C, which might sound mild, but combined with that moist air and little sun, it’s going to feel a bit muggy and damp. The breezy southwest winds will continue to whip through exposed coastal areas, adding to the unsettled feel.
As we move into tonight...
After around 7pm, a more organised band of rain is expected to sweep across Cornwall. While the exact timing can still shift slightly, most of the Duchy is expected to see some rain—and in places, heavier bursts are likely. This rain will track eastward through the evening and overnight hours, eventually clearing into the early hours of Sunday morning.
Overnight temperatures will fall between 8°C and 14°C, and with all that lingering moisture in the air, mist and fog patches could easily develop by dawn—especially in sheltered valleys and over higher ground.
What’s next?
Sunday morning could start on a damp, murky note in places, but we’ll have another update on that later. In the meantime, stay dry, stay cosy, and keep an umbrella by the door—just in case!
Wishing you a wonderful evening wherever you are!
Kind regards,
KWT Dave
