Pontardawe Swimming Pool: Where do the community stand in 2026?
It’s been nearly two years since our local pool closed its doors for the last time. As the site sits empty following demolition, here is the latest update on the fight for a replacement:
After 50 years of service, the old facility was deemed a "serious hazard" and demolished in late 2024. A recent feasibility study confirms what we already knew: there is a massive demand for a pool in the Swansea Valley that isn't being met by Neath alone.
Price Tag: A modern replacement is estimated at £14.9 million. The preferred site is adjacent to the Pontardawe Leisure Centre. This would save on running costs by sharing staff and energy.
While efficiency savings can cover about £4m, there is still a £10.8 million funding gap.
The Council is currently hunting for external grants to bridge that gap.
The community needs a pool that serves their schools and clubs, not just a commute to Neath!
What do you think? Is a £15m investment enough, or should they push for a larger leisure hub?
