Leveraging Discrete Function Decomposability for Scientific Design 1. This paper introduces a novel method called DADO (Decomposition-Aware Distributional Optimization) that significantly improves the efficiency of optimizing discrete design spaces by leveraging the decomposability of property predictors. 2. DADO employs a junction tree structure to factorize the search distribution, enabling more efficient optimization through message-passing algorithms. This approach is particularly useful in complex design problems such as protein engineering and circuit design. 3. The method is shown to outperform traditional Estimation of Distribution Algorithms (EDA) in both synthetic and real-world protein design tasks, demonstrating its potential for practical applications. 4. DADO's effectiveness is demonstrated through experiments on synthetic functions and real protein datasets, highlighting its ability to navigate large combinatorial spaces more efficiently. 5. The authors propose that DADO can be integrated with other advancements in generative modeling and policy optimization, suggesting broad applications in AI-driven scientific design. 📜Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2511.03032v1 #ScientificDesign #AI #ProteinEngineering #Optimization #MachineLearning

NIT Rourkela successfully hosts its 3-Day Annual Techno-Management Fest ‘Innovision 2025’ themed ‘Marine Matrix’! NIT Rourkela concluded its flagship annual techno-management fest, Innovision 2025, held from 7th to 9th November with great enthusiasm and participation. Organized by the Technical Society of the Student Activity Centre (SAC), the event is one of Eastern India’s largest and most vibrant campus technology festivals, attracting innovators, technocrats, and students from across the nation. The grand inauguration on 7th Nov at the BB Auditorium witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Sudip Pal Chowdhury {Executive Director (Projects), Rourkela Steel Plant}, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Nitesh Wadhwani (Superintendent of Police, Rourkela) as the Guest of Honour. The event was graced by Prof. Pradip Sarkar (Director In-Charge, NITR), Prof. Rohan Dhiman (Registrar, NITR) and Prof. Rajeev K. Panda (President, SAC-NITR). This year’s edition featured more than 50 events across diverse domains ranging from Aeropix, Robo-Sumo War, Maze Hunts, and Hydronaut, to auto and bike shows, Sci-Biz Quiz, and workshops on 3D printing and drone-making. Over 1,000 participants from states including Odisha, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand took part in the fest. A key highlight of the second day was the ‘Hack4Safety: Cyber Security Hackathon’, jointly organized by NIT Rourkela and the Odisha Police. The hackathon was inaugurated by Dr. Sarthak Sarangi, Inspector General of Police (CID-Crime Branch), as Chief Guest, and joined by Shri Smit Parmar, SP (Crime Branch), as Guest of Honour. The competition brought together 30 finalist teams out of 2,000 nationwide registrations to solve real-world problems related to cybercrime prevention, including Cyber Fraud Victim Support and Missing Persons Tracking, with a total prize pool of ₹2,00,000. Prof. Tirthankar Sarkar, Vice President, Technical Society (SAC), served as the Convener of Innovision 2025. The three-day fest concluded successfully, offering students a meaningful platform to explore technology, share ideas, and gain hands-on experience through interactive sessions and competitions. 🔗indiaeducationdiary.in/nit-r… #Tech #Fest #technology #Innovation #scientificdesign #engineers #Engineering #nitrourkela

Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose recognized as #India's first biophysicist was born on 30 #NOVEMBER 1858, in Mymensingh, #Bengal Presidency, which is now part of present-day #Bangladesh. Influenced by his father's commitment to vernacular #Education, Bose developed an early #Passion for #nature, fostering a profound connection that would significantly shape his scientific career. He initially enrolled at the #University of #London to pursue a #Medical degree but was compelled to withdraw due to health issues. Subsequently, he conducted #research under the esteemed #Nobel Laureate #Lord Rayleigh at the University of #Cambridge. In 1885, he accepted a position at Presidency College in Calcutta as its first Indian #professor of #Physics. In pre-independent India, the contributions to the natural sciences by Indian researchers were exceedingly rare. Bose made substantial contributions in the field of #Radio #waves in the microwave spectrum and was the first to implement #Semiconductor junctions for their detection. He demonstrated a method to utilize radio waves for #Communication, presenting his findings at the Royal Society in London in 1899. The same principle was used by Marconi to invent a two-way radio in 1901. Generally averse to the idea of patenting his inventions, Bose became the first Asian to obtain a U.S. patent (No. 755840) for a galena crystal radio wave detector in 1904. In addition to his work in #Physics , Bose's enthusiasm for the natural world led him to pioneer studies in plant physiology. His invention of the Crescograph, a specialized device for measuring the growth rates of plants, allowed him to explore plant responses to stimuli, revealing that plants exhibit sensitivities akin to "feelings." Bose's dedication to plant research culminated in the founding of the Bose Institute in Calcutta in 1917. This institution stands as #Asia's first modern research center focused on interdisciplinary scientific inquiry, upholding a tradition of research excellence that has persisted for over a century. He was honored with a knighthood in 1917 and, in 1920, became a Fellow of the Royal Society, making him the first Indian to receive such recognition in the field of science. Furthermore, in 1896, he authored ‘Niruddesher Kahini’ (The Story of the Missing One), a short story that paved the way for the inception of #Bengali science #fiction, earning him the distinction of being the #father of this genre. To commemorate this illustrious figure, India #post issued a commemorative #stamp in his honor on 30 November 1958, coinciding with his #birth centenary. #sciencenews #sciencefiction #scienceteacher #scientificdesign #researcher #plants #shortstories #philately #scientist #estic2025 #technology

Zama_fhe leverages cutting-edge Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) principles to build the fhEVM. This decentralized architecture allows for computation on data while it is cryptographically secured, ensuring post-quantum security and verifiability. The fhEVM is built using Solidity, optimizing for developer familiarity while delivering high-throughput results, including thousands of private transactions per second. Its core function is to establish privacy by default, a prerequisite for the next wave of decentralized finance and governance. The ecosystem is being rapidly expanded through developer engagement initiatives like the Creator Program Season 3, incentivizing research and application development around FHE adoption with a large reward pool. This signals the transition of FHE from theory to production. 🔬#Zama #FHE #ScientificDesign #PostQuantum #fhEVM @zama_fhe
