Jeffrey Snover, inventor of PowerShell, Technical Fellow and former CTO at Microsoft, and Distinguished Engineer at Google, has announced his retirement.
With the invention of PowerShell, he and his team changed the world of IT automation forever—and the careers of countless IT professionals. Mine included.
My first encounter with Jeffrey was at PSConfEU 2019 in Hannover. I'd just started with ScriptRunner, and as my colleague and I came down to the hotel lobby, there he was—sitting with members of the Microsoft PowerShell team and community. With an inviting gesture, he asked us to join. Suddenly, I found myself sitting next to the inventor of PowerShell. Wow.
Fast forward to July 2024. I reached out to Jeffrey to see if he'd be willing to join an "Inside IT Automation" conversation. Within 40 minutes, I received his response: "I would love to. Here is my contact info." The conversation that followed was, of course, amazing. He's an incredible storyteller.
So it's time to say a huge thank you to Jeffrey for everything he's contributed to the IT automation world and the incredible community that grew from the invention of
#PowerShell.
Thank you, Jeffrey Snover. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.
