As South Africa marks Youth Month, the
#SAPS is advancing its national campaign, โSAPS Youth - Leading the Reset Agenda,โ celebrating the passion, perseverance and accomplishments of young members who are making a meaningful impact within the organisation and in communities across the country.
Through the campaign theme, โMy Blood is Blue,โ SAPS is showcasing young officers who have embraced the responsibility to serve and protect with integrity, professionalism and unwavering commitment.
More than 20 SAPS athletes who are under the age of 35 are among thousands of runners who will take on this yearโs Comrades Marathon. Their participation reflects the resilience and commitment of a new generation of police officers dedicated to building a safer South Africa.
Today, the SAPS introduces 27-year-old Constable Mosima Matlala who is attached to the Limpopo Provincial Head Office, Protection and Security Services (PSS) Motorcycle Unit.
She joined the organisation in 2023, driven by a passion for serving people, protecting communities and making a positive difference.
Born in Ga-Matlala Limpopo, Matlala later moved with her family to Katlehong, Gauteng province to attend primary and high school where she specialised in Mechanical Technology and matriculated in 2016.
After school, in 2017, Matlala obtained her National Certificate in N3/N4 Mechanical Engineering. In 2019 she took up a job as a sales consultant which expanded her skills in customer service before joining the Service.
Matlala currently serves in the Protection and Security Services (PSS) Motorcycle Unit, Limpopo Provincial Head Office. Her duties include security support, escorts, patrols and rapid operational response. Her daily role demands vigilance, discipline and quick decision-making.
Matlala's is proud being a policewoman as it means she is a protector, leader and role model who serves with integrity, professionalism and compassion.
Since completing basic police training, her dedication has seen her progress into the specialised PSS Motorcycle Unit where she continues to build experience and sharpen her skills.
She attributes her performance to discipline, integrity, professionalism, determination, communication skills, physical fitness, teamwork and resilience under pressure.
Key career highlights include her selection to the Motorcycle Unit and successfully balancing policing with academic studies and sport.
Academically, Matlala holds a Higher Certificate in Law and is in her third year of studying towards her LLB degree, reflecting her commitment to continuous learning while executing her duties.
Matlala is also a dedicated athlete, beyond her duties, and holds a brown belt in karate which demands discipline, self-control, confidence and perseverance which compliment her policing career.
Matlala says she manages work-life balance through planning, discipline and maintaining a healthy lifestyle with sport playing a key role in managing stress and mental well-being.
Despite challenges such as long working hours, high-risk situations and unpredictable situations, she remains motivated by the impact of her work on public safety and community well-being.
She views running as a driver of endurance and mental toughness and aims to complete many marathons while inspiring young people, especially women, to pursue education, sport and demanding careers simultaneously.
On Sunday, 14/06, Matlala will mark Youth Month by running the Comrades Marathon for the first time - letโs cheer her and the rest of Team SAPS on! ST
