#sapsHQ [YOUTH MONTH - SAPS YOUTH RUNNING THE EXTRA MILE FOR SAFER COMMUNITIES: MEET CONSTABLE KHUBULANI DLAMINI, A COURT ORDERLY FROM KZN] As South Africa commemorates Youth Month, the #SAPS continues its national campaign, โ€œSAPS Youth โ€“ Leading the Reset Agenda,โ€ highlighting the determination, resilience and achievements of its young members who are helping shape the future of policing. Under the banner โ€œMy Blood is Blue,โ€ the campaign profiles young police officers who have answered the call to serve and protect with dedication, professionalism and pride. This year, more than 20 SAPS athletes under the age of 35 will participate in the Comrades Marathon, embracing the challenging up run as a powerful symbol of service and sacrifice. The demanding journey mirrors the challenges they overcome in the line of duty, showcasing the resilience, dedication and steadfast commitment that young SAPS members bring to protecting and serving South Africa. The 2026 edition of the Ultimate Human Race, the Comrades Marathon is a whooping 85.77km uprun from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Many first timers prefer to start their Comrades Marathon journey with a down run, not Constable Khumbulani Dlamini. The 33-year-old Court Orderly at the Mbumbulu Regional Court will be one of the novices representing the SAPS badge at the 2026 Comrades Marathon. Working at court is a stressful job. He must face criminals every day, calling their names to the dock and ensuring that the courtโ€™s diary runs unhindered, and ensuring safety of everyone inside the court. To maintain his mental sharpness, Constable Dlamini hits the road and is a long distance runner. The tenacious Constable Dlamini has been watching the Comrades Marathon from the sidelines, and this year he decided to make use of the opportunity presented to him by the SAPS. As the member of the SAPS KZN Athletics Club, Constable Dlamini was among the organisers of the Comrades Marathon Send-off race recently. โ€œI am grateful to the SAPS that my dream of becoming a Comrades Marathon medallist is coming to life. I have always been an admirer of the Comrades Marathon, and I did not know that SAPS allows police officers to play sports, as long as long service delivery is not compromisedโ€, said the man who is affectionately known as โ€˜Coachโ€™ among his peers. Renowned for his passion for running and team spirit, Coach Dlamini has played a significant role in strengthening the bond among club members as they participated in various races leading up to the Comrades Marathon. Recently, he was one of the instrumental members in the successful hosting of the 2026 eThekwini District Comrades Marathon Runners' Send-Off Run. Together with his team, he strategically completed the 10km fun run at a unified pace to boost morale, foster camaraderie, and demonstrate support for fellow athletes preparing for the iconic race. "Comrades is more of a mental challenge than a physical one," added Constable Dlamini. "The early mornings and the strict diet we had to follow were among the toughest aspects of the preparation. However, every sacrifice and every training session led us to this moment. Now, all that's left is for us to enjoy the race and embrace the experience. For a SAPS member the Comrades Marathon is more than running, but itโ€™s an awareness against crime and all sorts of social ills. The badge on our fast-pumping chests during the marathon is a commitment to our resolve to fight crime with everything that we haveโ€, concluded Constable Khubulani Dlamini. #sapsHQ [YOUTH MONTH - SAPS YOUTH LEADING THE RESET AGENDA: THE SKYโ€™S NOT THE LIMIT FOR KATHU DETECTIVE SERGEANT BLYTHE JANTJES As South Africa observes Youth Month, the #SAPS is highlighting the dedication, leadership and commitment of its young members through the national campaign, โ€œSAPS Youth - Leading the Reset Agenda.โ€ Guided by the campaign theme, โ€œMy Blood is Blue,โ€ SAPS is profiling young officers who have embraced the responsibility of serving and protecting the people of South Africa. Through their professionalism, integrity and passion for policing, they are contributing to the renewal of the organisation and helping to advance the goals of the SAPS Reset Agenda. Today, SAPS introduces 35-year-old Sergeant Blythe Xavier Jantjes, a detective and SAPS drone pilot attached to Kathu police station. Jantjes, born and bred in Kuruman, was appointed in the SAPS on 27 March 2015 and completed his basic police training at SAPS Academy All Saints in Bisho, Eastern Cape. His career kicked off at the Kathu Client Service Centre (CSC) then later served as a designated firearm official (DFO) and currently a detective at the same police station. As a detective, Jantjes investigates crimes that include murder, attempted murder, housebreaking, among many others. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science Degree, majoring in four fields namely: psychology, criminology, sociology and industrial psychology. Jantjes says he always wanted to know how drones can assist law enforcement with observation, safety, investigations, and situational awareness. He immediately grabbed the opportunity to complete a SAPS drone pilot course to develop specialised skills in modern technology and improve his ability to work more effectively in operational environments. For Jantjes, the selection process was both interesting and challenging at the same time. He found the interview stage particularly challenging as you need to do research on drones. Jantjes successfully completed the course and now proudly wears his drone pilot badge on his chest, equipped with knowledge, skills and capabilities to fight crime over the skies of Northern Cape. โ€œWhat stood out for me during the course was the combination of advanced technology, precision, and responsibility required to operate drones effectively. I found the practical training especially valuable because it showed how drones can improve situational awareness, safety, and operational efficiency in real-world scenarios. I also appreciated the emphasis on discipline, regulations, teamwork, and decision-making under pressure, as these are important qualities in professional operationsโ€, says Jantjes. Sergeant Blythe Jantjes' life motto and message to his fellow colleagues: โ€œSmile and wave because no challenge deserves to steal your joy. Problems may stand in your way today, but tomorrow they can disappear. Stay positive, keep moving, and never let life break your spirit.โ€ My Blood is Blue. The Youth are Leading the Reset. Under the banner, โ€œMy Blood is Blue,โ€ SAPS is highlighting inspiring stories of young officers who have committed themselves to serving and protecting the people of South Africa. Their passion, integrity and sense of duty reflect the values of the SAPS Reset Agenda and underscore the important role young people are playing in shaping the future of policing. Today, SAPS introduces the nation to Sergeant Marline Niemand, a SAPS horse rider attached to the Ekurhuleni Mounted Unit, Gauteng province. Niemand joined the South African Police Service in 2012 at the age of 21 after applying while serving as a volunteer at Springs Police Station. Now 35, she remains driven by an unwavering passion for policing and a determination to expand her knowledge on every aspect of law enforcement. Becoming a police officer had always been her dream, despite her mother's initial reservations about her chosen career path. With her father being a police officer and her role model, it was only meant to be for Niemand to fall in love with the profession. She was ready to submit her application to join the organisation when she turned 18 but did not have her motherโ€™s blessing at the time. However, Niemand refused to give up on her dream and three years later she finally got enlisted. Niemandโ€™s love and passion for animals attracted her to join the K9 Unit and is currently based at the Ekurhuleni Mounted Unit where she gets to work with horses. She admires horses for their intelligence and considers her four-legged colleague, โ€œBujoโ€, a loyal best friend who enables her to serve her community and fight crime in a unique way. To the South African youth: โ€œI joined the SAPS because it is my calling, my passion, my childhood dream. I will continue to serve my community with dignity, honour, and pride,โ€ Sergeant Marline Niemand concluded. My Blood is Blue.
