So I just finished my very first Leave to Appeal to the SCC Application!! I used to be so jealous of all those lawyers who were in the Supreme Court all the time...til I realized, you have to LOSE BIG in the Court of Appeal before you can apply for Leave...haha. Yay #SharpLegal

How happy are lawyers with the work they’re doing on a daily basis within their law firms? Well, according to the latest #SharpLegal research, that all depends on what work they are doing @thomsonreuters @CEOLeadr @wjjostentmsnrt.rs/3oHnaNE
ON THIS DAY in 2020, 6 weeks before #CovidLockdown I officially launched #SharpLegal after more than 30 years at @blaneymcmurtry! I absolutely could not have done it without the love & support of #LawTwitter. Can't wait to celebrate IN PERSON with my fave peeps one of these days!
Inspired by the FABULOUS women of #LawTwitter I am excited to announce that after more than 30 years at @blaneymcmurtry I will be opening my very own BOUTIQUE CLASS ACTION PRACTICE!! Start date and fancy schmancy new website to come!
Time docketed at #SharpLegal over last 4 days -
Work on client files: 0.4 hours
Editing my kids Residency Applications: 5.4 hours
Administrative tasks as Chair of the Ontario Class Action Bench Bar Liaison Committee: 22.6 hours!!!
In response to the most recent developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic, until further notice all appeal hearings at the Court of Appeal for Ontario will proceed remotely on Zoom and the court’s public counter will be closed. ontariocourts.ca/coa/
“No power” up here at #SharpLegal Muskoka means no heat, no water, no internet, no electricity, no flushing toilets, and no showers. So I packed up all my files and started the drive to Toronto to find THIS!! Ahhh! I’m trapped!!!
Agreed...in my first 30 some odd years of practice in a big firm, someone else did all of this for me...then in my first year at #SharpLegal I missed the (unknown) deadline by 2 days, and had to pay the fine. NO EXCEPTIONS. Argg
The Court of Appeal's decision in Johnson v Ontario clarifies that an order refusing to extend a class action opt-out period is a final order, properly appealable to the Court of Appeal. okt.to/w5niU8
So exciting for @GosaiLaw and #SharpLegal to have our recent win in the Court of Appeal featured in the famous @supremeadvocacy newsletter!! In my most lawyerly voice: woohoo! Thanks to @nancy_sarmento for all the long hours and hard work!
Who says you need a fancy schmancy office to argue in the ONCA? Shout out to #SharpLegal LAUNDRY ROOM & my amazing co-counsel, @nancy_sarmento (not in that order). Check out today's decision re "final" vs "interlocutory" order in #ClassAction opt out case: ontariocourts.ca/decisions/2…
Hey #LawTwitter peeps with your own firms...did you know that LSO does random #Audits of new firms!?! Spent almost the entire day on #SharpLegal audit...it's EXHAUSTING!!! I now appreciate all the stuff that was done in my former firm by people who knew what they were doing!
