📢🧠 Policy action on dementia can’t wait.
By 2050, nearly 1.7 million Canadians could be living with dementia, requiring almost 1 million care partners. Yet, stigma, low awareness and uneven policy responses are leaving families, communities and health systems unprepared.
That’s why the NIA is calling on governments at all levels to act:
✅ Adopt a dedicated dementia strategy, action plan, or framework in every jurisdiction.
✅ Expand public awareness campaigns to improve knowledge, reduce stigma and promote risk reduction.
✅ Establish clear, measurable goals and publicly report on progress.
Dementia affects us all—directly or through loved ones. To meet this challenge, Canada needs coordinated, transparent, and equity-focused strategies that prioritize prevention, inclusion, and compassionate care.
It’s time to move beyond acknowledgement to measurable action.
