📢🧠 Policy action on dementia can’t wait. By 2050, nearly 1.7 million Canadians could be living with dementia, requiring almost 1 million care partners. Yet, stigma, low awareness and uneven policy responses are leaving families, communities and health systems unprepared. That’s why the NIA is calling on governments at all levels to act: ✅ Adopt a dedicated dementia strategy, action plan, or framework in every jurisdiction. ✅ Expand public awareness campaigns to improve knowledge, reduce stigma and promote risk reduction. ✅ Establish clear, measurable goals and publicly report on progress. Dementia affects us all—directly or through loved ones. To meet this challenge, Canada needs coordinated, transparent, and equity-focused strategies that prioritize prevention, inclusion, and compassionate care. It’s time to move beyond acknowledgement to measurable action. 🔗 Read the full report here: niageing.ca/adressing-dement… #DementiaPolicy #BrainHealth #SmallStepsBigDifference #EndStigma

🧠 New research highlights why protecting your brain health matters. A new Canadian Medical Association Journal study has found that traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) increase the risk of developing dementia. - About 50% of TBIs result from falls. - 1 million Canadians over 65 are expected to experience a TBI in their lifetime. @DrSamirSinha, Director of Health Policy Research at the NIA, notes: “Any sort of injury to the brain—such as a fall leading to a concussion, brain injury, or bleed—can cause a fragile brain to then develop dementia.” This evidence reinforces the importance of the NIA’s new Small Steps, Big Difference campaign — a national public education initiative showing how small, everyday actions can help prevent or delay dementia. Research shows that nearly half of dementia cases could be prevented or delayed by taking simple, healthy steps at any age — from staying active and socially connected, to protecting your hearing, managing your blood pressure, and preventing brain injuries. The campaign highlights 14 modifiable actions that can help Canadians strengthen their brain health and quality of life as they age. 👣 Learn more: smallstepsbigdifference.ca 🎥 Watch the Global News story: globalnews.ca/video/11466825… #SmallStepsBigDifference #BrainHealth #HealthyAgeing #DementiaPrevention #FallsPrevention
