🚨The EU’s €8.6 billion NGO slush fund has arrived
Brussels has just advanced AgoraEU: an €8.6 billion slush fund for NGOs, media projects and ‘civil society’ groups tasked with enforcing EU ‘values’ across the continent.
The EU has just taken another step towards formalising one of the great scams of the Brussels system: government by subsidised NGO.
The new AgoraEU scheme is being sold, with the usual language, as a programme to support ‘culture, media and democratic values’. It is nothing of the sort. It is an ideological transmission belt, designed to move money from European taxpayers into a permanent activist class whose function is to impose the politics that national electorates increasingly reject.
This is the real structure of power in the EU.
When the Commission cannot openly force a policy through the front door, it funds an ecosystem to push it through every side entrance: NGOs, media projects, ‘civil society’ networks, equality bodies, watchdogs, litigation groups, cultural institutions, youth programmes, disinformation monitors and ‘values’ campaigns.
In plain English, it is laundering power through the NGO sector.
AgoraEU intensifies this model.
It takes existing programmes such as Creative Europe and CERV and folds them into a grander architecture for culture, media and ‘democratic values’. Its CERV strand is there to promote fundamental rights, equality, non-discrimination, gender equality, citizens’ rights and the empowerment of civil society. Its media strand is there to support ‘trustworthy’ information, media literacy and the fight against disinformation. Its cultural strand is wrapped in harmless talk about heritage, creativity and diversity.
Read the language carefully. The programme does not merely fund art, journalism or civic life. It funds the ideological conditions under which art, journalism and civic life are permitted to exist.
The official text speaks openly of supporting civil society organisations in advocacy, strategic litigation, campaigning, communication and watchdog activities. That is not neutral democracy support. That is political warfare.
And the direction of travel is unmistakable.
Anti-discrimination. Gender mainstreaming. LGBTIQ protections. Anti-racism. Anti-xenophobia. Anti-Muslim hatred. Climate adaptation. Media ‘resilience’. Disinformation control. Civic space. European identity. Union values.
You do not need to abolish national parliaments if you can surround them with subsidised activists, hostile courts, politicised NGOs, compliant media, ideological cultural networks and Commission-funded ‘experts’ who all say the same thing.
It is not about civil society. It is about constructing a parallel political class, funded from above, operating below the level of democratic accountability, and permanently hostile to the nations of Europe.
