A fellow agency owner asked me what I thought about working on projects that were started by someone else. I said "I'm 50/50" on it:
Yup, it sucks to onboard and work around someone else style, practices, or worse, mess, but...
I've also learned alot from others styles, practices, and mistakes, and...
I landed one of my best clients to date as a result of taking over a project from someone else.
Here's a recommendation though:
I think it’s a smart move to charge an onboarding fee to the customer when you take it over. They should understand it will take time to get to know what’s been done and time is money.
And it’s a litmus test, if the customers attitude is “I’m not going to pay you for that, I’m giving you the project” - that’s when I say thank you very much, I wish you luck ☮️ .
