It's not every day that a comet comes to visit ☄️ Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks won't return to our skies until 2095, but this actually makes it a fairly regular visitor. Our #CometInterceptor mission is targeting a much more exotic comet – one that is coming close to the Sun for the first time, carrying material untouched since the dawn of the Solar System. Find out more about Comet Interceptor 👉 esa.int/Science_Exploration/… #SolarSystemExplorers

This weekend may be your best chance to see comet 12P/Pons-Brooks! Famous for its sudden outbursts of gas and dust, this ancient cosmic iceberg won’t return to our night skies until 2095. esa.int/Space_Safety/Planeta…

#SolarSystemExplorers 📽️ ESA & NASA/Solar Orbiter/EUI Team

The Sun’s poles are still terra incognita. This 👇 is the Sun’s south pole as seen by the @ESASolarOrbiter spacecraft on 30 March 2022. By the end of 2025 the spacecraft’s orbit will be inclined enough that it will be able to target the solar poles with its telescopes and make measurements no other spacecraft has ever been able to. #SolarSystemExplorers 📽️ ESA & NASA/Solar Orbiter/EUI Team

📽️ Equipe ESA & NASA/Solar Orbiter/EUI #SolarSystemExplorers

DYK? #CometInterceptor, our next comet-hunting mission, will target a yet-unknown comet. The mission plans to observe a pristine comet that never or rarely entered the inner Solar System before. The spacecraft and its two probes will be parked in space, springing to life to intercept a comet when the time is right. 1/3 #SolarSystemExplorers
