How I desolder a connector with just a soldering iron.
What OP did wrong?
1. No preheating.
Always preheat Your PCB to 150C or 300F. Let it soak the heat until evenly heated. Otherwise:
- Your PCB is going to warp due to uneven heat transfer across laminate layers
- will extend time of heating with air, and probably damage the nearby components and (in this particular case) burn the edge of PCB. Preheated PCB will melt the joints in under 10 seconds.
2. Airflow was set too high, as he eventually had to drop the PCB from a hand.
Sounds too much of a hassle to You...? That's exactly why I'm always using just a soldering tip and get perfect results as shown.
