I’m spinning the brand new album by the iconic 80s group that first introduced the world to the legendary Luther Vandross on the 1979 hit “Glow Of Love” ,CHANGE, with Luther on vocals. Their new album is called “Embrace”. This time around, they’ve featured just one vocalist: Tanya Michelle Smith, an up-and-coming diva born in Toronto,Canada. She’s got a superb voice.🎤 So far, though, I’ve noticed they’ve toned down the bass line ,which is a bit of a shame, because Change was the bass! Just listen to “Hold Tight” and you’ll know exactly what I mean. The new sound leans a little “light” in places. That said, the musicianship,as you’d expect from Change ,is exceptional. I have had a few listens to @SelmorMtukudzi's latest track, "Kugara Namainini" (living with a "small" mother; read Stepmother) where she delves into her complex upbringing, and it hits right in the feels. The song paints a vivid picture of life with her legendary father, Oliver Mutukudzi, juxtaposed with the often challenging dynamics with her stepmother. Selmor's voice carries layers of emotion, weaving through the narrative with a raw authenticity that's both heart-wrenching and beautiful. The instrumentation? Masterful.
