This year, I’ve been thinking a lot about what AI in schools should actually feel like for children. #AI in schools should not begin with fear. It should begin with play. Not compliance. Not passive consumption. Play. Curiosity. Creativity. Agency. Belief in imagination. Unlimited opportunities. The most inspiring examples I’ve seen are not just teaching students how to use AI as a black box for Q&A. They are putting the power of creation in children’s hands and helping them understand that behind these new tools is something deeper: logic, problem-solving, computer science, and human imagination. That is what excites me most about this moment.🙌 Watching companies integrate AI into products for all student learners in ways that are safe, playful, fun and empowering has been one of the most energizing parts of this year. When done well, AI gives students new superpowers—not to replace their thinking, but to expand what they can make, explore, and understand. At @Bett_show it was exciting to see @LEGO_Education introduce smart bricks & new AI products for children with care & consideration through Andrew Sliwinski’s keynote (I’ll link in comments). The response was incredible. People could not get enough of it, and for good reason. You could feel the energy around giving students hands-on ways to explore not just AI tools, but the ideas and systems behind them.💡 And at Spring #CUE @joincalie , I was especially inspired to spend time with Andrew and the team from LACOE EdTech and Innovation including CIO Jose Gonzalez Christopher Hoang, Ed.D. Johan Madrigal , who are thinking deeply about how these kinds of products can help students build a better future, one where #AIliteracy is grounded in play, possibility, and creation.🙌 Children learn best when they are engaged. They learn deeply when they are making. And they thrive when learning feels joyful. As AI becomes more present in education, I am inspired to see how #edtech builds experiences that do more than teach students to use the tool. I hope we help them understand it, question it, create with it, leverage it, and imagine what’s possible because of it.
