With all the talk about @IOHK_Charles thinking about becoming a DRep! Let’s dive into what is a DRep on the Cardano Network ? What is a DRep? DRep = Delegated Representative. Think of them as: • governance delegates • policy analysts • ecosystem representatives • digital legislators for Cardano ADA holders can delegate their governance voting power to them. Important: Delegating to a DRep does NOT give them your ADA. Your ADA never leaves your wallet. DReps only receive governance voting power — not custody of funds. That separation is a huge design advantage for Cardano governance. Why does this even exist? Because governance gets complicated fast. Treasury spending. Protocol upgrades. Constitutional changes. Funding proposals. Hard forks. Parameter updates. Most users don’t have time to analyze everything deeply. So Cardano created a “liquid democracy” model. You can: • vote yourself • delegate to a DRep • switch anytime • abstain entirely It combines: ✔ direct democracy ✔ representative democracy ✔ constitutional oversight Very few chains go this deep. Cardano governance is built around 3 major pillars: • DReps → community voice • SPOs → infrastructure operators • Constitutional Committee → constitutional oversight It’s essentially a blockchain checks-and-balances system. The foundation for all this is CIP-1694. One of the most important governance frameworks in crypto. Named after Voltaire’s birth year (1694), it defines: • DReps • governance actions • treasury voting • constitutional processes • decentralized coordination Here’s where things get serious: Cardano has one of the largest decentralized treasuries in crypto. That means DReps could eventually influence: • billions in treasury allocations • ecosystem priorities • protocol direction • funding decisions This is REAL power. Becoming a DRep is actually relatively simple technically. You generally need: • a governance-enabled wallet • governance registration • ~500 ADA refundable deposit • a DRep registration certificate Supported wallets include: Lace Eternl Yoroi VESPR And many more But the hard part isn’t registration. It’s TRUST. The best DReps become: • educators • analysts • governance researchers • thought leaders • ecosystem strategists Influence will come from transparency consistency. Over time, successful DReps need to: • publish voting rationales • host Spaces • explain proposals • simplify technical governance • engage communities • maintain accountability Here’s the bigger picture: Cardano isn’t just building a blockchain. It’s experimenting with: • decentralized institutions • digital constitutions • on-chain governance • programmable political systems This is far beyond simple DeFi. If systems like this work… DReps could eventually influence: • DAO governance models • AI governance systems • digital identity systems • decentralized organizations • future internet coordination itself This experiment could extend far beyond crypto. StakePoolOperator-Scripts Update 🔥 github.com/gitmachtl/scripts * Scripts have been adopted to do a more accurate transaction fee calculation for the upcoming new cardano-cli * You can now use your own koiosAPI-Token if you like: The scripts are using the publicly accessable koios Rest-API to gather informations for example about a poolName, poolTicker, etc. If you don't provide an own koiosAPI-Token, the scripts are automatically using the Public-Tier (5k requests per day) for koios request. On the other hand, if you have an own koiosAPI-Token, the scripts will use that in "Light-Mode" and also show you the Project-ID, the choosen Tier and the Expire-Date of your koiosAPI-Token. If no mnemonics are provided, new ones are automatically generated. Also you can set another accountNumber or indexNumber for the derivation path if needed! * Sending Transaction-Messages (encrypted or unencrypted), attaching Metadata-Files in JSON/CBOR Many scripts already supported the direct sending of Transaction-Messages. With this update now ALL scripts of the suite (that are doing transactions) support Messages and Metadata-File attachment of JSON/CBOR files!
