From Diagnosis to the Summit: Keaton Herzer’s Journey Begins
Meet Keaton Herzer. At age 34, with a wife and a two-year-old son, Keaton was diagnosed with Stage 4 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. What began as minor stomach pain quickly became life-changing news.
Through fear, uncertainty, and changing treatment paths, Keaton found guidance, support, and hope through CCF, from connecting with a mentor to understanding treatment options and accessing innovative therapies. Today, thanks to a targeted treatment that he and his wife fought to have approved by his insurance provider, his tumors have significantly shrunk, and for the first time in months, he’s feeling like himself again.
Now, Keaton is turning hope into action.
His goal: To become the first person living with cholangiocarcinoma to summit Mt. Rainier, while raising $100,000 for patient support, advocacy, and research through CCF. As a part of his training, he'll be tackling many of the Colorado 14ers. And throughout this journey, he’ll also be undergoing a liver transplant as a part of his cancer treatment plan.
This isn’t just about climbing a mountain. It’s about showing what’s possible when patients are supported, research is funded, and community shows up.
