What is that thing hanging off the side? Don’t tell me it’s a secret Star Trek warp nacelle. Well, that would explain those high-speed USOs we’re hearing about with disclosure, huh! USS Boise (SSN-764) undergoing repairs in dry dock, August 2020. #Submarine #Navy #SubMonday

"Hurry, full speed ahead! They’ve got a mail bouy drop for us, and they're almost at bingo fuel!" Photo1: Now, here's a port side view of the nuclear-powered attack submarine Boise (SSN-764), making waves at high speed off the Virginia Capes on 12 July 1992 during sea trials. Photo2: Crewmen on the sail of Boise (SSN-764) stand by to receive a package being lowered to them on a rescue hoist from an SH-60F Seahawk assigned to the "Nightdippers" of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Five (HS-5), 28 May 2002. #Submarine #Navy #SubMonday

Here’s a set of 4 photos showing torpedo loading and handling aboard the USS Pargo (SSN-650) at Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, in September 1968. One of those torpedoes looks a little off—anyone got insight on what that rocket-looking thing hooked onto the torpedo is? Could be some sort of test gear? or mod, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s the torpedo version of a submarine lawn dart game. Anyone out there with more knowledge on this? #Submarine #Navy #SubMonday

Here’s a solid shot of an SH-60B, equipped with a FLIR pod on the nose—placing the date somewhere in the last 10 years. The boat is an early Los Angeles-class (SSN-688), easily recognizable by the sail planes and the bow sitting high in the water—no VLS in the forward ballast tank, which kept the later 688s riding lower in the water. This particular boat might be the Indianapolis (SSN-697). In 1991, it was involved in testing the MK 50 ASW torpedo with the boat serving as the target. There was also a helo transfer, possibly for practice, in a bay near Olympia, Washington, or maybe an inlet nearby. High speeds and sharp rudder angles were used in tight quarters for torpedo retrieval. It could also be off the coast of Washington, where operations were conducted before pulling into Seattle for a week. Source: Navsource #Submarine #Navy #SubMonday

🚢💥 Tactical Overkill: Sub Edition 💥🚢 Take an exclusive look inside the US Navy's $500 Million Littoral Combat Ship—like illegally using goldfish for bass fishing...except this time, the Submarine (Angler) has a MK 48 torpedo locked and loaded. 🎯🐟💥 "Might even have to break out a Tomahawk to deal with this flashy skimmer. Sometimes, you gotta use some high-speed ordnance to reel in these fast movers—because regular tackle just won’t cut it. 🎯🐟💥" But in all seriousness, this ship is an impressive Littoral Combat Ship, packed with advanced equipment and weapons systems. It looks like a fantastic platform for young sailors to gain advanced skills, training, and experience that only the US Navy can provide. 🇺🇸⚓ It's worth a look at this video. 👀: youtube.com/watch?v=IzV1Rv_i… #SubLife #GoldfishVsBass #LCS #SkimmerGames #WhenInDoubtSendTheTomahawk #Submarine #SubMonday

In a dance of power and grace, the guided-missile submarine USS Georgia (SSGN-729) glides through the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway on November 24, 2008, en route to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia, returning from pre-deployment testing. Like the bride captured in flight in this first photo, it moves with elegance and purpose, embodying the strength of its mission. On July 23, 2009, an aft view of the Georgia underway in the vast Atlantic Ocean reveals its majestic presence, cutting through the waters with a seamless blend of beauty and precision. #Submarine #SubMonday

"Billfish Breaches for a Photo Op!" Nothing like a little fresh Arctic air! Posing proudly next to the sail of USS Billfish (SSN-676) after surfacing through the icepack during Exercise ICEX '87, this crew looks like they just stepped out of a recruiting poster—except with a bit more frostbite. "Nevada Glides Through Puget Sound" On January 14, 2015, the ballistic-missile submarine Nevada (SSBN-733) made its way through the serene waters of Puget Sound, heading toward Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. Behind the mighty submarine, the majestic mountain range of Washington state provided a stunning backdrop, with snow-capped peaks standing tall against the clear sky. It’s a rare moment when the power of a nuclear submarine and the beauty of nature come together, reminding us of the quiet strength that lies beneath both the surface of the water and the land. A perfect blend of might and majesty. #Submarine #SubMonday #SubTuesday

On April 10, 1968, USS Scorpion (SSN-589) glided alongside USS Tallahatchie County (AVB-2) outside Claywall Harbor, Naples, Italy. Her sleek form cut through the water, a silent predator of the deep. Atop her sail, Commanding Officer Commander Francis A. Slattery stood firm, megaphone in hand, guiding his crew through another chapter of their storied deployment. With orders set, Scorpion slipped away, bound for home—but she would never return. Lost to the depths in May 1968, she vanished with 99 brave souls aboard. Though claimed by the sea, Scorpion’s legacy endures—etched in history, whispered in the tides, and honored by all who serve beneath the waves. ⚓🕊️ #RememberScorpion #EternalPatrol #SilentService #Submarine #SubMonday
