Throwback to May 12, 1984 – When the Navy Discovered Color Film (Sort Of 😆) 📸 First Four Photos (Black & White): Here we see four proud Los Angeles-class submarines—Baton Rouge (SSN-689), Atlanta (SSN-712), Birmingham (SSN-695), and Norfolk (SSN-714)—lined up at the pier in Norfolk, VA for the commissioning ceremony of their sister ship, Salt Lake City (SSN-716). A fine display of naval power… and an apparent shortage of color film. 🎨 Last Three Photos (In Color): A little later, three of the boats—Baton Rouge, Atlanta, and Norfolk—are still there, but now in full Technicolor! That’s right, folks—this was the exact moment the U.S. Navy decided to upgrade from “classic war documentary” mode to “modern recruitment poster” mode. Well, not really… but hey, it makes for a good story! 😆#Submarine #SubTuesday

Boston (SSN-703) was barely seen inside the open bay doors of the small assembly building near Florida, while City of Corpus Christi (SSN-705) was likely behind the closed bay doors to the port of Phoenix.

UFO Encounter During Polaris Missile Test – April 19 1961 A newly disclosed message, which appears to have been drafted by COL Phillip G. Evans of the U.S. Air Force and appears authentic, has been forwarded to TheSubVet.com, detailing an account of a possible UFO incident involving a Polaris submarine in April 19, 1961. Approximately 60 seconds before the scheduled launch, the object appeared on the FPS-8 radar at Cape Canaveral AFS and the FPS-20 Radar at PAFB. There was an attempted intercept by a (USAF) F-102 Delta Dagger, a manned supersonic jet interceptor, which locked onto the object for two minutes before the object disappeared. Records indicate that the USS Robert E. Lee (SSBN-601) was involved in Polaris missile tests around this time, including a documented launch on April 19, 1961, from Cape Canaveral. (Launch Manifest Records List Polaris A-1) astronautix.com/p/polarisa1.… As an 11-year Missile Tech on submarines involved with Poseidon C-3, Trident I, and II, and also an alumnus for Instrumentation Launch Supervisor at NOTU (Naval Ordnance Test Unit) CCAFS in the 1990s, this message hits close to home. As a submarine veteran, I understand that the ethos of the Silent Service has always been to remain silent. Although stories of USO/UFO phenomena have circulated among submarine crews, no one has officially gone on record. The submarine service is among the most secure branches of the military, operating under a strict "need-to-know" culture. Knowledge of such incidents, if they occurred, would likely remain with sonar teams, past officers, and crew members in key positions. For decades, researchers like Robert Hastings have documented connections between UFOs and nuclear weapons, uncovering numerous military testimonies detailing unexplained aerial phenomena near nuclear sites. Investigative journalists like Ross Coulthart have explored recent accounts of high-speed USOs reported by active-duty submariners, aligning with longstanding reports of UAP activity near nuclear assets. The historical precedent suggests that UFO/UAP interactions with nuclear sites span many years. Interactions with submarines, the evidence strongly suggests, indicate that our boats were not immune to these phenomena based on other documented cases involving nuclear weapons or nuclear energy sites around the world. It's most likely that similar interactions have happened with the Russian submarine nuclear fleet as well. Many ancient records, religious texts, and historical accounts describe similar phenomena that have plagued humanity throughout its known documented history. The Silent Service could hold key insights into understanding this ongoing mystery, which is slowly coming out in media and congressional hearings. Submariners, past and present, might contribute to the broader discussion on unexplained phenomena while ensuring that submarine operations, locations, and capabilities remain protected. If you were there during this incident or part of the crew, or if you have any tips, even rumors, about this event or others involving the UFO/UAP phenomenon when you were serving on submarines, you can contact me at: Email: TSV@TheSubVet.com Please share only information that you are legally and ethically permitted to disclose. The security of past and present submarine operations remains a top priority. A secure ProtonMail email address account will be available upon request for more privacy and sensitive, non-classified information for tips regarding UAP/USO phenomena. All shared information will be reviewed by trusted investigators under strict confidentiality agreements to ensure no personal or operational security is compromised. If sharing such experiences brings up personal issues, please remember that there are veteran support services available.
