The neighbor that was insistent on me not getting my water yesterday learned that I'd been up working on getting water since 5:30am. After he said something about me not being out there at 6 to turn it on (I was there when it was turned on at 9am). He told me that I could run today since it's still the irrigation weekend. And the ditch rider turned the lateral back on for me once he learned I didn't get my allotment. We shall see if I can get flooded today. I'm still ready to subsurface drip the entire property and not worry about fighting over water.
Neighbors all got acres covered. I'm the last person on the ditch. I pay for one acre foot of surface water (River water) irrigation a year, and by the time it gets to me I can't even cover my 1/4 acre fruit grove. Here’s a full Sunday morning picture: What’s closed right now The following are currently shut down: I-44 westbound/I-70 eastbound at Tucker Boulevard/Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge; I-44 eastbound/I-55 northbound at the Poplar Street Bridge (including ramps from I-64 westbound); eastbound I-70 express lanes at Union Boulevard; and South Broadway at Cass Avenue. From Illinois, the westbound I-64/Walnut Street exit and I-44 eastbound ramp are also closed. Northbound Fourth Street is closed at Washington Ave.  How long will it take? The repair timeline remains to be determined, which will directly influence when the highway sections reopen.  No official estimate has been given. Complicating that: later Saturday, the Water Division spokesperson said the site was proving more challenging than initially anticipated, as the infrastructure makes it difficult to slow the water flow.  That’s not a good sign for a quick fix. For context on similar St. Louis cave-ins, the MSD has said comparable large cave-ins caused by collapsed brick sewers can take up to a month to repair, with smaller ones taking up to three weeks.  This one is larger and involves the structural integrity of an active interstate, so days-to-weeks is a realistic frame, not hours. With the downtown section effectively severed: •Traffic is being detoured west to Gravois Avenue and north on Gravois/Tucker to merge with I-70.  Expect those surface streets to be badly congested. •Travelers crossing Missouri should check MoDOT’s Traveler Map (traveler.modot.org) before departing — the I-270 loop around downtown St. Louis on the west side is your best bypass. •Anyone coming from Illinois via I-64 (the Poplar Street Bridge) needs an alternate crossing — the Blanchette Bridge (I-70 in St. Charles) is the next viable option to the north. •No reopening timeline has been set, so assume this is a days-long disruption minimum heading into the work week.
