I had an allergic reaction as soon as I saw the term 'modifiable risk factors'. I don't know whether I should be angry or amused that the #Table2Fallacy is still alive and flourishing among the leading general medical journals!

Yikes, my first paper to review since #CausalIntroCourse and there's a #table2fallacy.... Now desperately trying to find the right level of critique that is thorough & useful but without being, y'know, #reviewer2 *bites nails* 🙈 #statstwitter

Never heard of #table2fallacy, but can see that all the putative risk factor associations are confounded by interventions, e.g. labour induction & Caesarean, which can both prevent & cause the composite adverse endpoint. Is that collider bias?

I saw this. The term 'risk factors' is always a red flag for possible #Table2Fallacy. This is almost a textbook example. I'm afraid the study is essentially meaningless.

I'm not 'famous', but I've published a paper that contains both a #Table2Fallacy and a glaring example of #CompositeVariableBias!
I use this in my teaching, to show that we're all learning and there's no shame in admitting past mistakes!

Who of the famous people in the field would be ready to publicly talk about their non-rigorous research in the past? I think that few people have ever published 10 papers without major rigor issues in at least one of them. Let's normalize talking about rigor.

This is a good discussion on what's called a #Table2Fallacy. Whew -- I'm super glad that we in #ecology and #geography don't have to worry about this*!

This was ALWAYS #Table2Fallacy. But it was *obvious* smoking wouldn't be protective. The concern is how many Table 2 Fallacies occur that are not obvious... 🤔

It's difficult to fully understand #Table2Fallacy or #ColliderBias without learning about causal diagrams. @GeorgiaTomova and I would love to have you attend the #TuringCausalSchool, although we know (sadly) that epidemiology is not really your area.

#Table2Fallacy is a problem not just because the coefficients do not represent total causal effects, but because there is a high risk of #ColliderBias, which can massively distort the apparent relationship between variables, most notoriously leading to changes in sign!
