📢 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Dorchester, Caroline and Talbot County
Earlier this week, we noticed that the Maryland State Police - Easton Barrack was much quieter than normal on our scanners. Several other people also noticed it and sent us a few messages asking if something had happened.
After looking into it, we heard from multiple sources that MSP - Easton Barrack (ONLY) was no longer operating on an open public frequency.
Therefore, I reached out to Maryland State Police Headquarters and asked the question if the Easton Barrack had moved to an encrypted radio frequency, meaning their communications can no longer be monitored by the public.
I received a response stating the following:
“Maryland State Police Easton Barrack troopers are utilizing both encrypted and non-encrypted channels. MSP is not transitioning to full radio encryption.”
I know what the statement says, but nonetheless, we can't hear it. Regardless of what is actually happening, and regardless if they are or are not using encrypted frequencies, we can no longer hear anything from the MSP Easton Barrick.
We are not going to complain or cry over spilled milk, the bottom line is we can’t hear and there is nothing we can do about it. The busy Memorial Day weekend is upon us and we just want to move on and focus on getting info by other means.
Some people have asked why we have been lacking coverage in certain areas like Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot County, well here is your answer why. I apologize but I just didn’t know, so I didn’t realize it until it was brought to our attention and now we know.
This directly affects our ability to cover incidents in:
📍 Talbot County
📍 Dorchester County
📍 Caroline County
The Easton Barrack covers all three of these areas, and this change means we won't be able to get information the way we have in the past. It has certainly affected us over the past few days but it is what it is, now we know, we can adjust and refocus.
Is it frustrating? Yes, sure, but is it going to stop us? Absolutely not. Now that we know about it, we can adjust and focus on getting info via other means.
Therefore, now, more than ever, WE NEED YOU!
Here's how you can help:
👉 Hear something? Tell us about it.
👉 See something? Snap a photo and send it our way.
👉 Know something? Get us the details.
Before anyone asks or makes assumptions, Eastern Shore Undercover isn't going anywhere and we are not discontinuing our coverage from Caroline, Dorchester or Talbot County. If anything, it's going to motivate me to do more! We're just going to get our information a little differently….again… and now straight from the people who matter most…. OUR COMMUNITY!
We don’t stop the process, we just adjust how we move along the process.
Together, we will keep our community informed and get through this. We have done it without issues in other counties and we will do the same in these three counties.
