Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal: The India–US trade deal safeguards India’s core agricultural interests while opening new doors for exports and technology. Farmers, dairy producers, spices and tea sectors remain fully protected with zero tariff concessions. At the same time, the US has cut tariffs on a wide range of Indian exports to a uniform 18%, benefiting textiles, leather, pharma, gems and manufacturing.
India, in return is lowering duties on industrial goods, machinery, electronics, AI hardware and semiconductor inputs, making tech and data infrastructure more affordable. Alcohol imports are also set to become cheaper, with duties on imported spirits expected to fall sharply, improving consumer choice but increasing competition for Indian craft brands.
Overall, the deal aims to balance rural protection with global competitiveness, strengthening India’s position in manufacturing, exports and emerging technologies.
