Huawei has officially confirmed that its annual developer conference, HDC 2026, will run June 12-14 at Songshan Lake in Dongguan — and the agenda points to one of the most consequential HarmonyOS releases yet, alongside a major update to Huawei's phone-car connectivity platform.
According to the event's published schedule, the HUAWEI HiCar Smart Mobility Ecosystem Summit on June 13 will unveil HiCar 7.0, the latest version of Huawei's solution for mirroring phone functions — navigation, music, calls, and voice assistant — onto in-car displays. The release follows HiCar 6.0, which debuted in mid-2025 with features including shake-to-navigate address transfer, full phone-desktop projection onto car screens, and an interactive 3D vehicle control model.
The HiCar update arrives as part of a broader showcase. The conference's keynote will unveil a major new version of HarmonyOS — widely expected to be HarmonyOS 7.0 — alongside core HarmonyOS AI capabilities and new ecosystem achievements. Agenda details confirm the HarmonyOS 7 release is locked in: a session on June 13 titled "HarmonyOS Spatial Aesthetics and Interaction" will cover the new version's design language, including a new UI design kit, a redesigned control sphere and window system, and variable font support, with Huawei's ArkUI framework team also detailing how its components will integrate with the new spatial design language for simplified ecosystem adoption.
HarmonyOS 7.0 is being framed as the most significant underlying architectural overhaul since HarmonyOS launched — marking the first time Huawei has achieved 100% full-stack self-development, completely removing the Android AOSP compatibility layer and shifting HarmonyOS from "Android-compatible" to fully "native." On the AI side, Huawei's Pangu large model will power deep integration between on-device and cloud AI, enabling local inference with 98% speech recognition accuracy and millisecond-level response times — all processed entirely on-device. For developers, Huawei Cloud is open-sourcing a full range of Pangu model sizes from 1B to 718B parameters, while also integrating over 160 mainstream third-party models including DeepSeek and Qwen.
Compared to HarmonyOS 6.0's focus on cross-device connectivity and lightweight AI deployment, HarmonyOS 7.0 is expected to emphasize a deeper AI architecture overhaul, optimized interaction logic, and large-scale rollout of on-device AI features — including cross-device AI task collaboration, performance and battery efficiency gains, and improved background app persistence.
