Hiring: Business Development Officer (Agricultural Commodities)

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Business Development Officer to manage the entire procurement-to-export process for Nigerian agricultural products like sorghum, ginger, sesame, soybeans, maize, and cocoa. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, developing international markets, and ensuring successful exports with a direct impact on revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Oversee Entire Export Process:
•Lead and manage all activities related to the procurement, processing, and export of agricultural commodities.
•Ensure continuous supply by building relationships with local farmers and agricultural cooperatives.
•Supervise the entire supply chain from sourcing to delivery, ensuring quality, compliance, and timeliness.
2. International Market Expansion:
•Identify new international markets and build relationships with global buyers across regions such as Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the U.S.
•Develop market strategies and negotiate contracts for the export of commodities.
•Ensure that all deals align with company goals, creating opportunities for business growth.
3.Sales & Business Development:
•Take charge of sales strategies for agricultural exports, aiming for new customer acquisition and increased revenue from international markets.
•Develop sales presentations, proposals, and customized offerings to attract and secure clients.
•Oversee all negotiations related to pricing, terms, and international agreements.
4.Logistics & Documentation:
•Lead the logistics of shipping, ensuring all necessary export documentation (permits, letters of credit) is accurate and up to date.
•Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs officials, and distribution channels to ensure timely delivery of goods.
5.Supplier and Buyer Relationship Management:
•Develop long-term partnerships with suppliers, aggregators, and international distributors.
•Manage ongoing relationships with international clients to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
•Handle complaints, inquiries, and product requirements effectively and professionally.
6.Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
•Track sales performance and report on key metrics such as profit margins, customer acquisition, and market penetration.
•Continuously evaluate the efficiency and profitability of the export process, making adjustments where necessary.
7.Leadership & Team Coordination:
•As the lead for export operations, coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth procurement, production, and distribution processes.
•Provide direction and guidance to internal teams on export-related projects and activities.
•Actively participate in strategic meetings to help align business goals with operational execution.
Qualifications & Skills:
•Minimum 3-5 years of experience in export management, business development, supply chain or international trade (preferably in agricultural commodities).
•Proven experience in managing the end-to-end export process, from procurement to shipping.
•Strong ability to negotiate, develop sales strategies, and close deals with international buyers.
•Solid understanding of international trade regulations, export documentation, and logistics management.
•Proficiency with B2B platforms (Alibaba, Tridge, ExportHub, TradeKey etc.) and other trade resources.
•Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
•Fluency in English required; proficiency in additional languages (e.g., French, Arabic, Hausa) is a plus.
•A degree in Business, International Trade, Agricultural Economics, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
