Wildlife Biology Minute:
Good morning everyone! βοΈβοΈ
This camera location is starting to tell a story.
Over the last few days we've had a steady stream of does moving through this area. That's valuable information on its own, but it's only part of the picture.
Nearby, we also found several rubs from last season, including this one. Rubs tell us bucks have used the area, but they don't necessarily tell us exactly where they're traveling today.
As a wildlife biologist, I often think of deer movement like a road system. Right now we have identified a travel corridor that appears to be heavily used by does and family groups. The next step is figuring out where the mature bucks are entering and exiting that system.
Mature bucks often use the same landscape differently than does, often prioritizing security cover over convenience.
The pieces are starting to come together. That's what makes scouting so much fun. π¦
Every photo, track, rub, scrape, and trail adds another clue.
