The International Dialogue Centre #KAICIID was honoured to convene the Arab Region #Diplomatic_Corps accredited to the #Portuguese Republic for a high-level Ambassadorial Roundtable on “Transformative #Dialogue Approaches for #Peace and Social Cohesion.” Co-hosted by H.E. Ambassador Othmane Bahnini, Dean of the Arab Regional Group and Ambassador of the Kingdom of #Morocco, and H.E. Ambassador António de Almeida Ribeiro, Acting Secretary General of #KAICIID, the event brought together representatives from 11 #Arab_nations, including KAICIID Founding Member State, the Kingdom of #Saudi_Arabia. In his remarks, Ambassador Ribeiro reaffirmed KAICIID’s mission and highlighted the Centre’s origins as a unique multilateral initiative dedicated to fostering mutual respect and inclusive societies through dialogue: “Religion, like diplomacy, has the power to mobilize communities for the common good. When policymakers and religious leaders work together, they can develop sustainable, preventive solutions to conflict”. Unlocking Deep Insights: How to Transform Your Conversations with the Krishnamurti Method During my PhD research, I uncovered something that could change how we approach deep conversations. Just as Socrates gave us the Socratic Method, Jiddu Krishnamurti developed what I call the "Krishnamurti Method." This isn’t just another way to chat—it’s a powerful tool to transform how we think and perceive the world. Krishnamurti, from 1948 until a year before his death in 1985, engaged in profound dialogues with a diverse range of people—scientists, philosophers, spiritual seekers, and even students. These weren’t ordinary discussions but explorations into the nature of thought, reality, and the self. I found that these dialogues reveal a method designed to challenge conditioned thinking and awaken deeper understanding. Here’s how you can practice the Krishnamurti Method in your own conversations: 1. Ask Unanswerable Questions What It Is: Begin with questions that don’t have easy answers. These questions are meant to disrupt habitual thinking, not lead to a final answer. How to Practice: Instead of asking, “What’s the solution?” ask, “What if the problem itself is a product of our thinking?” This shifts the focus from finding answers to exploring deeper issues. 2. Use Methodological Negation What It Is: This involves setting aside past knowledge and preconceptions to open up new ways of thinking. How to Practice: Approach each question as if it’s the first time you’re encountering it. Don’t let past experiences dominate the conversation; allow fresh perspectives to emerge. 3. Observe Without Judgment What It Is: Pay attention to your thoughts and reactions without trying to judge or resolve them immediately. How to Practice: Notice when you’re trying to jump to conclusions. Allow the dialogue to unfold naturally without forcing it toward a specific outcome. 4. Value Not-Knowing What It Is: Create a space where uncertainty is embraced. The goal is to explore the unknown, not rush to conclusions. How to Practice: Resist the urge to fill the silence with answers. Let the questions breathe and see where the conversation leads. 5. Focus on Process, Not Outcome What It Is: The Krishnamurti Method emphasizes the journey of inquiry rather than arriving at a definitive answer. How to Practice: Remember that the purpose of the conversation is exploration, not resolution. Insights will come naturally when the mind is free from the pressure to find a solution. By following these guidelines, you can start practicing the Krishnamurti Method and experience its potential to transform your conversations and thought processes. It’s not just about learning new ideas—it’s about unlearning old patterns and opening yourself up to deeper, more authentic understanding. 📌 The Training That Almost Didn't Happen Meet Sheilalaine G. Romulo, an associate professor at Cebu Technological University and a passionate youth advocate in #CebuCity, #Philippines. When the chance to join a KAICIID #elearning course on #interreligious dialogue came, she eagerly accepted, knowing it would enhance her work across various sectors. 📚 ✅ One of the key lessons Sheilalaine embraced was philosopher Hans-Georg Gadamer’s idea that "dialogue evokes openness to others’ horizons," which she applied while organising a Training of Trainers event. When the lead organization unexpectedly withdrew in the middle of preparations, Sheilalaine's first thought was to cancel the training. But a conversation with a partner, who encouraged her to take the lead herself, shifted her perspective. By truly listening, she realised that they could still proceed and make the event a success. 👩‍🎓 Sheilalaine says that this moment of true dialogue transformed her, leading to the successful delivery of the training, which will benefit public-school teachers and their learners in Cebu. 🌍 The experience also reaffirmed Sheilalaine's belief in the #transformative power of #dialogue, which she took as a key learning from KAICIID's course. During the KAICIID Global Dialogue Forum last month, Dr. Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, Co-Founder of the Southeast Asian Women Peace Mediators, reflected on the example of the historical 40-year conflict in Mindanao between the Philippine state and the Moro liberation fronts.
