I completely agree.
Tipping used to make sense when you had full table service and the server relied on it to make a living. Now they ask for a tip everywhere — Starbucks, takeout, self-checkout… even when you’re just grabbing something to go.
I worked as a waiter during college and I know how tough it is. Some days you work 8 hours and go home with almost nothing because the restaurant was slow or customers didn’t tip.
Businesses should pay their employees a fair wage (like in many European countries) and let tipping be truly optional for exceptional service — not an emotional tax on a screen.
This culture needs to change.
