THE OLYMPICS: A LIGHT TO VIRTUE AND UNITY 🙏
Let us pray in thanksgiving for the unity and virtue the Olympic Games can foster. 🙏
Tonight, in the sights and sounds of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, we witnessed a ritual older than sport itself: the carrying of the Olympic torch and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron – a quadrennial act that symbolizes hope for peace, friendship, and unity among nations.
Hear and feel the transcendent power of Andrea Bocelli’s voice as he sings Puccinis’s “Nessun dorma,” an aria that fittingly represents triumph, hope, and resolve. See link below.
The Olympics are more than a sporting event. They are a human moral symbol that have withstood the test of time, visible to all of God’s children, of virtues our fractured world needs: perseverance, self-control, respect, hope, and unity. 🙏
May these Games remind us that peace and unity are possible, and may we seek them with a Christian Olympian’s heart – disciplined, generous, and ordered toward the common good. 🙏
