The press should not just platform the comfortable NGO version of the crisis. It should scrutinise who shapes the demands, who gets heard, and which policy asks are excluded. This is not about whether working-class people appear in coverage as residents, victims or local colour. It is about whether working-class policy critics are allowed to make structural arguments. Our Head of Energy Transition Alistair Hill joined a @UtilityWeek panel on heat networks consumer protections in London yesterday. Alistair highlighted that improving pricing and billing processes will build consumer confidence in the heat networks sector.

In a surprise to no-one, the ambitious flexibility targets have been described as the “hardest part” of plans for a decarbonised power system by 2030. Nick Winser admitted that ramping up flexibility to the level outlined in the government’s Clean Power 2030 Action Plan would be “very difficult”. Winser made the comments at Utility Week Live, where the National Energy System Operator (NESO) director of strategy and policy Claire Dykta also revealed that the flexibility challenge often leaves her with her head in her hands.
