1. Ed, ur right. Explaining to students that car dev isn’t a one time exercise that solves for life. Bake the science into learning so they see that it’s a lifetime/long process. Move away from test/tell exercise because it doesn’t account for multiple developmental life cycles

Along these lines I Strongly recommend Patton/McMahon’s Systems Theory Framework of CD. It’s a natural progression of Savickas and focuses on client’s narrative engaging in influences in developmental life cycles (and recursivity). Well established practice in Australia, Europe

I love that you mentioned storytelling. Because I am incredibly interested in learning more about 1) Narrative Career Counseling approaches and 2) how aptitudes and interests change based on ongoing experiences…and how those experiences change the stories we write for ourselves.

Well said Ed… considering Values and storytelling about one’s aptitudes are demonstrated is essential. Just returning from speaking at Cannexus in Canada I was so encouraged about two audience reactions…”exposure bias” and aptitudes shaping skill development.

.Gender stereotypes begin to form before aptitudes. Parents, community, social networks - exposure bias come into play. But, just because you are good at something doesn't mean you like doing it & Sir Ken said it better than anyone. #careerdevelopment requires a human process.
