💧 Community-Led Water Source Management in the Central Region, Kakunyu, Wakiso District! In today’s session, the community has come together to discuss how they can better manage, protect, and expand their water sources. The conversations have been practical and grounded in the realities of daily life, showing once again how much communities can achieve when they lead the planning themselves. Community members shared what they need in order to keep their water points functioning well, including contributing small fees (like 2,000 UGX/per month) to help maintain the wells, sensitizing households on proper water source care, and discouraging practices such as washing clothes directly at the wells. They emphasized the importance of regular maintenance and building a strong culture of responsibility around shared resources. They also discussed ongoing borehole development efforts. Community leaders explained that new boreholes are being expanded from spring sites to serve clean water to these communities. Partners providing boreholes requested land where these facilities can be installed, and the community agreed on forming a committee to monitor and oversee the boreholes, ensuring timely repairs and proper usage. Plans were also made to identify additional locations for three more boreholes, to reduce pressure on existing water points. The parish chief committed to working with community members to map out suitable sites and present these recommendations to the subcounty leadership for approval. The community also agreed to hold monthly meetings to review progress, allow the executive committee to coordinate day-to-day actions, and ensure decisions are communicated to the parish chief for follow-up. Today’s discussions showed a community that is organized, proactive, and deeply committed to improving its access to clean and safe water, leading the work themselves, with partners walking alongside them. #LocalLeadershipLabs #LocallyLedDevelopment #CommunityCoCreation #WaterSourceManagement #CAPAIDSUganda #JEDA #CIVICUSAlliance #CentralRegion #CommunityVoices #BuildingLocalPower
