Going to share some amazing apps built with Amore over the next couple of days. Starting with WhyFi by @jamespotter

🛜 WhyFi 1.4.0 Added a new WhyFi Score (0-100) so you can see at a glance how good your connection is and hover for tips and advice on how to improve it. Credit @sobedominik for the idea (and check out his battery app Juicy which inspired me a bit to make WhyFi!)

WhyFi got cracked. I'm strangely flattered.

🛜 WhyFi 1.4.1 Reworked scoring and icon color thresholds from the ground up. The icon color is now based on the score, not the single worst metric. No more red face at 89/100. 🛜 WhyFi 1.4.2 Added support for Intel Macs.

#Mac tool alert! 💻 WhyFi from @jamespotter lives in your macOS menu bar and keeps an eye on your Wi-Fi. It measures signal, router latency, internet quality, and DNS. Find out what's actually wrong when things are slow and learn how to fix it. whyfi.network/

🛜 WhyFi 1.3.0 - Make my icon go green If a metric is too high (e.g. ping is >70ms) and it's showing as amber/red you can now hover it and 'accept' it to increase the threshold. It applies to the currently connected network only so you can teach it your preferences. Maybe the wi-fi in your local cafe works fine but jitter is always a bit high, so now you can make it green. - Insane Mode In WhyFi Radar if you're in a dense city and you want to see all of the 500 routers around you, now you can. - Less jargon The tips and advice given for improving bad metrics is now easier to understand.

$1190 donated to Bali street animals from WhyFi sales in February 🙏 This is Icha the puppy. She was found a few weeks ago dumped in a rubbish bin. Now fully vaccinated and sterilised and ready to be adopted.
🐶🐱 Some animal-related news about my app WhyFi So far I sold 709 licenses at $10 each ($7090). Really unexpected for what started out as a quick weekend project 10 days ago! I decided to donate 100% of that to a charity here in Bali. They rescue, vaccinate and sterilise street dogs and cats. 50% of all future sales of WhyFi will go to them too. There's nothing like the RSCPA here and a lot of families are struggling financially, so unwanted animals are routinely dumped in rubbish tips, rice fields or just left on the street to fend for themselves. The scale of the problem is huge. I'll share more soon on the landing page. Thanks to everyone who bought the app.

Favourite apps I have bought or renewed lately (in no particular order): - Readout : great for cleaning and getting visibility of repos/token spending... - @CleanShot : best for screenshots - @screenstudio : there is no better tool for demo apps and presenting features - Klack: if you want to be annoying in a coworking, but also if you miss your mechanical keyboard - WhyFi: to check the quality of my network wherever I am - Ice: keep my menu bar clean and organised - @1Password : amazing, critical for security

Finally added a simple landing page for WhyFi whyfi.network The hype has died down now so I need to do some actual marketing next. Currently averaging $40-$50 per day in sales.

I’ve gotten into macOS menu bar apps recently, following some cool little launches over the last week or so, specifically: WhyFi by @jamespotter and Pretty Timezones by @ky__zo. TIL that you can hold the Command (⌘) button to move them around. I’ve also learned that macOS doesn’t handle it well when you have a lot of them (at least the version I’m running). It just hides some of them if there isn’t enough space. Any known solution to this?

I've been working on a Windows network health tool, inspired by WhyFi for MacOS. It's looking pretty slick, and I think does a good job of explaining itself without being too overwhelming

🛜 WhyFi 1.2.0 Added a new feature WhyFi Radar - walk around with your laptop and find the best spot in the house/cafe for optimal wi-fi. This was so fun to build! The radar uses signal strength as a proxy for how far away a router is from you (the angle/direction is only illustrative). Also added more tooltips and fixed a bunch of stuff like captive portal detection, networks that block ICMP, faster recovery from network issues, etc.
