Day 3 of writing about the top ordinal collections on Bitcoin, and today’s spotlight had to be @TaprootWizards! The 2,121 Wizards trying to make Bitcoin magical again amassed over 500 BTC in volume across MagicEden, OKX and Satflow. With inscription numbers ranging from #652 to #14,163,842, the total file size of the entire collection is 95.21 MB, and it took ~1.18 BTC to inscribe them on-chain. It all started with the first-ever 4MB inscription: #652, dropped on Feb 1, 2023. Later that month, @mavensbot publicly endorsed the project in a Twitter Space with @udiWertheimer and @farokh. On March 2023, the team introduced the "Wizard School" - a place where people could complete quests in order to graduate and earn a whitelist spot for the collection. The first three quests were related to learning about the Lightning network and to make a small donation towards supporting open-source Bitcoin development and the infamous #WizardShower challenge. The quests were a massive success with over 5,000 lightning transactions amassing to a total of $19,000 that ended up being donated to HRF Bitcoin Development Fund and with over 4000 submissions for the #WizardShower Challenge in less than 15 days!! The team has hosted Spaces with top names like @VitalikButerin, @CryptoGarga, and @ErikVoorhees. On Nov 16, 2023, Taproot Wizards raised $7.5M in a seed round led by @standardcrypto with backing from @__geometry__, @ColliderVC, @StarkWareLtd, and others. No ordinals were sold. The “12 Days of Wizmas” in Dec 2023 saw 12 community members each earn a Wizard NFT. Most still rock them as their PFP. On Jan 8, 2024, they inscribed @quantumcats – a 3,333 supply project based on OP_CAT. Cats could “evolve” over time. The Genesis Cat auctioned at @Sothebys for $254K. Quest 4 followed: create videos explaining OP_CAT to earn whitelist spots. Quantum Cats launched on Jan 29, mostly via WL, with 313 minted publicly. The mint price was 0.1 BTC. In March 2024, interactive OP_CAT missions began. On Mar 5, “Golden Capes” were revealed: holders could redeem a caped Cat for a Taproot Wizard. BIP-420: OP_CAT was officially proposed on April 22. Fast forward to Feb 4, 2025, Taproot Wizards announced a $30M Series A led again by @standardcrypto. Backers included @cyberfund, @__geometry__, @ColliderVC amongst others. On March 25, 2025, the Taproot Wizards mint went live: 2,085 wizards around inscription #150,000. Mint price: 0.2 BTC. There were only a few ways to get a wizard: - Locking a pair of dead alive Quantum Cats for a 0.1 BTC mint price - Graduates of Wizard School (Whitelist) for 0.2 BTC mint price - Dutch auction = started at 0.42 BTC, clearing price was 0.31 BTC Before the mint went live, Quest #5 was also announced where people could submit a video recording their crazy plans to arrange the funds needed for the Taproot Wizards mint! The locked Quantum Cats were distributed back to their owners on 31st March - six days after the mint of the wizards. Taproot Wizards have also had several IRL events like the NFT NYC (April, 2023), Wizards Afterparty at Inscribing Amsterdam (October, 2023) and Wizards in Vegas (May, 2025) which has been attended by several wizards like @ElizabethOls0n! Earlier this month, @udiWertheimer opened their Telegram to all. Link can be found on his profile. At the moment of writing this post, the wizards have a floor price of 0.2295 BTC and is up ~40% over the past 30 days. Will Taproot Wizards hit 1 BTC? Well… nobody wants a Taproot Wizard, right?

How to get one? Lol after 12 months, a grand total of 40 taproot wizards have been given or allocated. Not even Taproot Wizard CTO @rot13maxi has been given one. It’s apparent the team want a community that is committed, proactive and dedicated to growing Btc and that there is no rush to distribute these ordinals. Rather, an intentional, methodical approach is being used. A whitelist mechanism has been mentioned as part of the eventual distribution of the wizards (although the full details have not been released). To gain access to the whitelist, the team have organised an educational and participatory series of quests: Quest 1: “Struck by Lightning” involved questors setting up lightning wallets and transacting several dollars in btc on the lightning network as donations to the Bitcoin Dev Fund (raising $19000 total). This helped to educate and onboard questors to lightning. Quest 2: “Pledging Allegiance” - add wizard icon to twitter profile and tweet. Quest 3: “#Wizardshower” required questors to film and post a video of taking a shower/bath in a wizard costume. This got wild – see X post link below (wizard shower in a new, roof-openned convertible car in a carwash). Quest 4: “Quantum Cats” – a quest in 3 parts involving social media posting and production of content to support recent efforts to re-introduce the bitcoin opcode OP_CAT which in turn has the potential to spur a wave of new innovation, use case and developments on bitcoin. x.com/cr0ssETH/status/163904… 4/6 👇
