*₹15.74 Lakh Work-From-Home Scam Busted: Delhi Police Cracks Multi-State Cyber Fraud Network*
In a major breakthrough against cybercrime, the Cyber Police Station of Central District, Delhi, has busted a sophisticated multi-state online investment fraud racket and arrested three accused involved in a work-from-home task-based scam that allegedly cheated a government employee of ₹15.74 lakh.
According to police, the victim, a DRDO employee residing in New Delhi, was initially contacted through WhatsApp by fraudsters claiming to represent a company offering property rental rating and leasing tasks. The victim was later added to a Telegram group, trained to perform online tasks, and encouraged to register on multiple websites.
To gain the victim’s trust, the scammers initially provided small profits on minor investments. As confidence grew, they introduced attractive schemes such as “Charter Leases,” “Bonus Tasks,” and high-return investment opportunities. Believing the promises of substantial earnings, the victim transferred money multiple times, eventually investing approximately ₹15.74 lakh.
The fraud came to light when the victim attempted to withdraw his earnings and was asked to deposit an additional 50% of the displayed balance as a withdrawal penalty. Realizing he had been trapped in a cyber fraud, he approached the police, leading to the registration of a case and a detailed investigation.
A dedicated team from Cyber Police Station, Central District, conducted extensive technical surveillance, digital forensics, financial transaction analysis, and field investigations. Their efforts led to the arrest of three accused from Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Police identified their specific roles in the fraud network, including receiving fraudulent proceeds, layering funds through multiple accounts, and providing bank accounts for routing the cheated money.
Investigators recovered mobile phones used in the crime and uncovered critical evidence linking the accused to the organized cyber fraud operation. Further investigation is underway to identify additional members of the network and trace the complete money trail.
Delhi Police has urged citizens to remain cautious of unsolicited work-from-home offers received through WhatsApp, Telegram, and social media platforms that promise guaranteed returns or quick profits.
