This November we celebrate World AMR Awareness Week.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is the silent pandemic many of us aren’t aware of, but the numbers tell their own story. 1.27 million deaths a year are directly caused by bacterial AMR. A staggering 4.95 million deaths a year overall are associated with AMR.
AMR threatens the very foundation of modern medicine, from routine day-patient surgeries and treatments to lifesaving interventions like cancer treatment. We all have a part to play in tackling it.

Today is the last day of #WorldAMRAwarenessWeek but you'll still see our cheeky mascot Andi Biotic popping up to remind us how to #KeepAntibioticsWorking
Follow these simple rules:

Standing Strong Against the Silent Global Threat
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a silent global threat that demands immediate attention. As superbugs rise and treatment options shrink, action cannot wait.
This World AMR Awareness Week, BIRAC reaffirms its commitment to the fight. Through BIRAC funded schemes; BIPP, SIBRI, BIG, specialized calls and its mission programs like the National Biopharma Mission (NBM) and Grand Challenges India (GCI), we are powering India's AMR solutions.
Our focus is clear: Strengthening AMR Surveillance, Supporting R&D for New Drugs & Diagnostic Platforms Developing Therapeutic Products & Antimicrobial Agents
From novel antibiotics and biotherapeutics to monitoring tools, innovators and startups are driving sustainable solutions to protect our present and secure our future.

Do you know that self-medication for that infection you are suffering from could lay the ground for a debilitating medical condition? Yes, the inability of your body to respond to any new treatment: Antimicrobial Resistance Here are the drivers #WorldAMRAwarenessWeek
Every unnecessary antibiotic prescription pushes us closer to a world where treatments no longer work.
#WorldAMRAwarenessWeek Let’s work together to prevent AMR.
Dear health workers,
Your stewardship ensures patients are treated safety and effectively. Every decision counts.
When dealing with antibiotics, remember:
🟢Access first
🟠Watch with care
🔴Reserve as last resort

In emergency settings, the risk of #AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) rises.
Limited access to diagnostics and antibiotics, weak infection, prevention and control (IPC) measures, and inadequate WASH services all fuel the spread of resistant infections.
In a Region that is home to 38% of all people in need of humanitarian aid worldwide, integrating AMR into every humanitarian response is not optional — it is essential to save lives.

Taking antibiotics exactly as prescribed is crucial to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) because it ensures all harmful bacteria are killed, preventing any survivors from developing resistance. #AMR#WorldAMRAwarenessWeek#AntibioticResistance#PSGhAshanti#WAAW25
What is the role of media in the fight against #AntimicrobialResistance?
They can help raise awareness of AMR by regularly reporting on its global threat and highlighting positive stories about responsible antimicrobial use. They can also change people’s behaviors by guiding them on what actions to take.
Media can also share human stories of #AMR survivors and advocates.
