Taking Responsibility
The Four
#Chicago Doctors Who Wrote the Cheque Instead of the Reportš¤š„š¤āØ
āDonāt apply for inclusion in a broken house. Build your own ā and plant it where itās needed.ā
Four Black doctors saw the gap.
They didnāt write a report. They wrote a cheque.
They didnāt apply for inclusion. They built their own clinic ā and planted it where it was needed most.
Stop waiting for someone else to fix it.
You have the expertise. Close the gap.
The Story: Four Black Doctors. One Gap. No Permission.
Chicago. A neighbourhood bleeding. No clinic. No access. No one coming.
Most people saw the gap and wrote a report.
Four Black doctors saw the gap and wrote a cheque.
They didnāt wait for a grant. Didnāt beg for ašŗat someone elseās hospital board. Didnāt outsource the pain to āthe system.ā
They took responsibility.
They pooled their money. Bought the building. Hired the staff. Opened the doors.
Not just healthcare. Community ownership.
They didnāt ask, āWhen will they fix this?ā
They asked, āWhat if we fix this?ā
The Attenborough Principle in Scrubs:
Sir David spent 7 decades showing us the world. These doctors spentš°ļøhealing their corner of it.
Same playbook. Different jungle.

What They Really Built:
Not Inclusion ā Ownership
They didnāt apply to join someone elseās institution. They built their own from the ground up and planted it where it was needed most. Inclusion asks for a chair. Ownership builds the table.
Not Charity ā Capacity
This wasnāt a pop-up clinic for photo ops. This was infrastructure. Payroll. Medical records. Sustained presence.
Not Complaint ā Competence
They had the expertise. MD after their names. So they used it. The gap met their gift. They didnāt outsource responsibility because they were tired. They insourced it because they were qualified.
Not Elsewhere ā Here
They didnāt build in the suburbs and bus people in. They built in the community that needed it most.
The Microwave Lie They Killed:
āSomeone should do something.ā
Microwave mentality waits for rescue.
Oven mentality writes the cheque.
Dangote didnāt wait for Nigeriaš³š¬to refine. He built a refinery.
TCN didnāt wait for lightš”. They commissioned 82 transformers.
These4ļøā£doctorsš„¼didnāt wait for healthcare. They became it.

Donāt die with your expertise unused.
The gap is the invitation. Your gift is the answer.
Will you write the report, or will you write the cheque?
What gap exists in your neighbourhood right now that you have the expertise to close, if you stopped waiting for someone else to close it?
